Remaking Joy of WP - My Process For Re-designing And Re-developing My Site

I'm embarking on a big journey and I'd like to take you along for the ride. It's a journey of unknown length with destinations a little TBA.

It sounds like the Twilight Zone but that's what I'm aiming to avoid.

This is even knowing - best as I can -  where the journey will end.

I'm in very early planning for a shiny new Joy of WP site. The design will be largely overhauled providing a more interesting and interactive experience. The  content - free videos, blog posts and a few words about my services will remain intact.

In addition to the overhaul I'll be adding three new content components to the site over time.

But how will I make changes to a site that is very active and can't be taken offline for renovation?

The ADA and Universal Design: Why Do We Develop Accessible Web Experiences?

This summer marked the 30th anniversary of the passage of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA).

While the act never specifically mentions the web, overtime court rulings have brought the world of the web into the realm of the ADA.

I recall the resistance many in the business community had initially with the ADA. It was thought that the ADA would increase costs, add to confusion and adversely impact employer-employee relations. Those sentiments certainly changed over the years. I think today most businesses would praise the advent of the ADA.

Without question the ADA has made access to information on  the web better for all and possible for the rest of us.

ICYMI: What's New In WordPress 5.5?

At the end of July a new version of WordPress was released.

If you've kept your site up-to-date you will be running this version.  If not, you'll see a notification when you're logged into your WP Admin to do the update.

This version has significant changes to the Gutenberg page editor as well as to the rest of WordPress.

Here's my video that highlights what the changes are.
