Welcome back

September was a big month here at the BBW Volunteer Network. Our new website launched, the first edition of our rebranded Community Connection Magazine was released and more recently our Community Exchange website went live. Some of our most recent developments are detailed below, but we would recommend checking our website for more details.

As always, lots of new and exciting volunteer opportunities are featured below. Our new website allows us to store all the Basildon, Billericay and Wickford opportunities in one place - making it easier for you to find the perfect opportunity for you.

Thank you for reading,

New Website & Community Exchange

Have you visited our brand new website www.bbwvolunteernetwork.co.uk yet? On there you’ll find a range of volunteer opportunities, volunteer news and more! It's worth checking out our FAQ Section. This covers some of the questions we often get asked about volunteering and may help you in your search for a suitable volunteer role.

Alongside our new website, our Community Exchange portal is now live. The Community Exchange is a fantastic way to access community support! Simply volunteer your time or expertise in exchange for a credit that you can use for help in the future. This could include anything from dog walking or gardening to basic DIY or IT support.

Bus Buddy - Peaceful Place

Peaceful Place Bus Buddies assist the driver in the transportation of Peaceful Place members to and from the day centre in Basildon for adults with young-onset dementia.

They are looking for people with a cheerful personality who can enhance the already lively conversation happening on trips and engage with the members using the service.

Call Companion - Re-Engage

Would you like to make a real difference to the life of a lonely older person? Re-engage are looking for call companions (telephone befrienders).

As a volunteer call companion, you would call the same older person between two and four times a month at a mutually agreed time for an informal chat. Calls will last for around 30 minutes, although it’s up to you how long you want to talk for!

Cleaner - Billericay Foodbank

The Billericay Foodbank is relocating to Billericay High Street and is in need of a new volunteer cleaner. The role would require a commitment of 2-3 hours per week and will involve cleaning of the premises (including fridges) after their weekly deliveries. General cleaning skills are required. Other volunteer opportunities may be available at a later date.

By becoming a Virtual Volunteer Pregnancy Pal, you can: offer regular phone and video support for parents during pregnancy and in the early months post-birth and receive training and ongoing personal development.

Walk Leader - Run Fit Club

The Run Fit Club are looking for volunteers who would enjoy taking a group of locals out for fun social walks in the local community every week.

Friendly, kind, welcoming, understanding and approachable are the main qualities needed to be an awesome walk leader, as well as good common sense.

St. Nicholas Church

St Nicholas Church in Laindon are looking for a team of volunteers to help clear and tidy their churchyard which was recently targeted by vandals. They are looking for volunteers who can come along on Saturday 14th November, 2 pm for approximately 2 hours to help tidy the area. Equipment will be provided.
Foodbank

The local 'Foodbank Community' are looking for a small army of collectors who are able to collect waste food (still edible) and deliver it back to the Foodbanks. They are looking for both regular volunteers and those who can help on an ad-hoc basis when cover is needed for certain rounds, particularly at weekends.

The British Red Cross - Covid-19 Response Training

The British Red Cross has made available a free short online training course for volunteers in charities and community groups who are responding to Covid-19. The course takes under 30 minutes to complete and includes a short quiz at the end. Community groups and charities may like to use this as part of their training for their volunteers.
