Loreto Highlights Update - 18th September 2020
2D or not 2D, that is the question!
Over the past couple of weeks Foundation Stage 2 have been going over 2D shapes. This week we have concentrated on triangles and their properties and made fish using shapes of different sizes. Children were also encouraged to work in small groups and use different shapes to create pictures. They put their imaginations to good use and one group of children made a ‘huge robot’ and another group made a rocket. The children also used shapes as stencils on a whiteboard. These activities all help to further develop their fine motor skills.
Wall ball
Year 1 have been working on their ball-coordination and ball tracking skills. Here are Sixto and Lachlan who were both the winners of our new “Wall Ball” game!
Badminball
Year 6 have been learning the rules of our new “Badminball” game. Ball tracking, spatial awareness, catching, weight of bounce and fake passes are just some of the skills they’ve been practicing in this new game. An enjoyable game which will help in the build up to Badminton skills which is next on their sporting agenda.
The Angelus
Year 6 children uphold the Loreto tradition of praying The Angelus at midday every day.

Loreto Sustainable School Committee (LSSC)
Prof. Daniella Tilbury, Commissioner for Sustainable Development and Future Generations, donated a set of books on Sustainability to the Loreto Convent School library at the beginning of this academic year.

These books are aimed at children of all ages, from our early learners to the eldest in the school and may be borrowed from the library during class library sessions. They are beautifully written and illustrated and provide lots of useful information and ideas to carry out fun sustainable-based activities. Have a look at some members of the LSSC enjoying these gorgeous books.
Reading Challenge
Oscar Chaudhary 6G and Rebecca Miguel Rodriguez 2M have been given their prize book and certificate for participating and completing the Summer Reading challenge, well done to you both.
Self Portraits
Year 3 children have drawn some fantastic self- portraits to celebrate their differences
and uniqueness. There are many budding artists in this year group!
