The Bank of East Asia Ltd.: HK$4.2M Fine

Public Announcement by the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission that it has imposed a fine of HK$4.2 million on The Bank of East Asia Limited for "failure to segregate its client securities from proprietary securities into separate accounts maintained at two external custodians as required by the Securities and Futures (Client Securities) Rules".

Editor's Note: The "Foreign Main Proceeding" in this matter was filed at Bermuda Supreme Court in July, 2019 under seal as part of Bermuda Supreme Court's blanket policy to conceal insolvency proceedings from the public, with the entry in the Court's public register at the time reading "Space Taken". It is typically only when Bermuda insolvency practitioners seek recognition in the United States that details become publicly-available.
