Hello, I’m Cllr Tony Dale, Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills. The new NHS COVID-19 app is being launched this Thursday 24 September. One of the app's functions will be to allow users to scan a QR code at the entrance of venues and businesses. It will be mandatory for certain businesses to display a QR code poster. Businesses that do not fall into the mandatory list but that have areas where people congregate will be encouraged to display a QR code poster.
The process for creating and displaying your QR code is straightforward via the GOV.UK website. Please read on for further information.

Who must display the NHS QR code poster?
If your business or venue falls into one of the sectors or categories that should provide a customer log, then you MUST display an NHS QR code poster at your venue when the app launches nationally on Thursday. This applies if you provide:
hospitality services, including pubs, bars, restaurants and cafés
tourism and leisure services, including hotels, museums, cinemas, zoos and theme parks
close contact services, including hairdressers, barber shops and tailors
facilities provided by Local Authorities, including town halls and civic centres for events, community centres, libraries and children’s centres
If you have a business outside of these categories that is visited by members of the public and has a space where people congregate, then you are encouraged to create a QR code poster for the entrance.
The government has updated its guidance for keeping workers and customers safe during COVID-19 in restaurants, pubs, bars and takeaway services. In addition, new ‘Covid-secure’ regulations came into force from 18 September which mean that venues providing food and drink for consumption on their premises are legally obliged to implement specific aspects of this guidance or face a fixed penalty notice of up to £4,000. The regulations require that businesses must:
Not accept a table booking for a group of more than six individuals or admit a group of more than six people – specific exemptions apply
Take reasonable steps to prevent separate groups of six from mingling with each other
Ensure that tables of different groups are spaced 2m apart, or 1m plus mitigations, such as screens or barriers
These regulations can be enforced by local authorities and the police.
All open businesses should have undertaken a risk assessment and be complying with the COVID-19 guidelines as set out above. You should display the 'COVID-19 compliance poster' to give your customers confidence when they come to your premises.
Commercial tenants will be protected from the risk of eviction until the end of 2020 helping businesses to protect jobs. Read more on the GOV.UK website.
Applications will open via the Growth Hub from 10am on Monday 28 September. The hub has put together some FAQs to help you gather the information you need to establish if the upcoming grant schemes are suitable for your business, and if so ensure you’re in a strong position to make an application.
