Looking to the Future at St. Bede's: a Community Discussion

Growing the parish was one of the top priorities identified by parishioners as we prepare to call a new rector, but what does that exactly mean to us?  What size parish are we now?  Who are we hoping to attract and/or retain?  How might growth change us?  What is our role in growing the church?  What is the rector’s role?
Please join us next Sunday, October 4 at 8:30 a.m. or on Thursday, October 8 at 7 p.m. for a community conversation on parish size, the impact of parish growth and expectations we hold for the future, led by Reverend Martha.  There will be time to share your thoughts on this subject, which will help guide us as we move into a time of transition.   Check next weeks eNews for the Zoom links for each meeting.

Supporting St. Bede's Financially

A special thanks to all of you who’ve kept up with your annual pledge to St. Bede’s even as we continue to shelter at home.  Your gifts have enabled us to meet our payroll and overhead expenses, support our weekly Zoom Chapel services, and keep the essential work of the church going.  If you normally donated via the Sunday plate, please consider a financial gift to St. Bede’s this summer to help continue our work. Contributions can be made securely on our website, or by mailing a check to the church office.

November Selection for Bede's Book Club

On Wednesday, November 4, we will be discussing A Woman of No Importance, by Sonia Purnell. This New York Times bestseller recounts the true story of Virginia Hall, a female spy who helped to win WWII. The Book Club meets at 9:30 a.m. via Zoom. Contact Laura Gable for a meeting invite.
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry released a new book on Tuesday, September 22, called Love Is The Way.  This book is essential for addressing the seemingly insurmountable challenges facing the world today: poverty, racism, selfishness, deep ideological divisions, competing claims to speak for God. And this book will lead readers to discover the gifts they need in order to live the way of love: deep reservoirs of hope and resilience, simple wisdom, the discipline of nonviolence, and unshakable regard for human dignity. You can find the book by clicking HERE.

A Prayer for This Week

O God, this past week our country has surpassed 200,000 deaths from Covid19.  While at the same time, our county has moved from "purple" to "red."  We mourn the death of our fellow Americans, and yet, we give thanks for the people in our community who are working tirelessly to make our area more safe.  Through your wisdom and love, guide the people of this land to health, and grant your healing grace to all who are sick.  And in your great mercy, embrace those who have died, and comfort those who mourn.  In Jesus' most holy name, we pray.  Amen.
