We've won an IEMA award!

Sustainability Campaign
(Not-For-Profit / Charity)

Dear all,

We are absolutely delighted to announce that we have won the award for Sustainability Campaign in the sub-category not-for-profit/charity at the IEMA Sustainability Impact Awards 2020, which took place on Friday 18 September.

It was a huge honour to be nominated, and beyond our expectations to have won.  This kind of recognition is hugely valuable to our organisation and will help us to accomplish our goal of giving people in our community access to nutritious foods, encouraging healthy habits and inspiring interest in our natural environment.

In the Sustainability campaign (Not-For-Profit/Charity), two charities were shortlisted including Growing Space & LCR Year of Environment 2019 Nature Connected. This award had diverse entries in both size and shape with a focus on community engagement, valuing our green spaces and connecting with nature.

Dan Hamza-Goodacre, Executive Director of Climateworks Foundation announced this year’s award winner in this category, and this is what the judges had to say about Growing Space:

“The Growing Space charity has a vision that is simple yet highly effective. The impact of their work may be quietly understated but can be inspirational, and lead to far greater benefits for all those involved, and at whatever stage in life. Their campaign to include the local community, and in particular schools, is very much in keeping with the current movement of children and young people engaging with nature and their environment. It demonstrates a clear understanding that many urban, inner city children have no access to dig, plant and grow their own food. The aim is for them to develop an understanding and appreciation of their natural environment. There is a clear sense of purpose in what they are doing and a desire to grow and extend to other communities. A very worthy winner. Congratulations Growing Space - Arcadia Charitable Trust!”

Sarah Mukherjee, CEO of IEMA, said:
‘Growing Space by Arcadia Charitable Trust and all the winners can be proud of their achievements – action to tackle the climate and environmental crises we face requires business and industry, civil society and our politicians to step up and lead the transformation and change needed’.
