Reading      When I Am Among the Trees     by Mary Oliver
                                                                       Read by Marcia DeZwarte

When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness.
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.

I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.

Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, “Stay awhile.”
The light flows from their branches.

And they call again, “It’s simple,” they say,
“and you too have come
into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled
with light, and to shine.”

Closing Words

The grace of the Holy One goes with us into the messiness of life,
extending to us peace in the midst
of what is unfinished, untidy, unclear, or unresolved.
Remember the Beloved offers us refuge and strength along the way.

With steadfast patience,
let us go encouraged in the labors of love,
pressing on through complexities,
and staying present to the moments of beauty.
Blessed be our journeys of healing and transformation.

Green Team – Environmental Forum – Rising Seas – Sept. 22

The Environmental Forum of Marin presents, “Rising Seas, Resilience, and Retreat,” online on September 22, 2020 from 10 AM to 12:30 PM.

Seas are rising quickly and we must Act Now to protect our communities and ensure our environment is able to strategically adapt to changing shorelines.

This event covers both the science and the emotional experience of what it means “to lose a world in slow motion.” Elizabeth Rush, author of the Pulitzer Prize finalist book “Rising: Dispatches from the New American Shore” reports from affected communities while Christina Toms and Bob Battalio contribute their expertise in nature-based adaptation strategies that build capacity for communities to become more resilient.

The FPCSR Green Team strongly recommends this important program.
