KAITIAKITANGA: Taonga Motu Predator Free

This is a great article on the annual check of Kāpiti Island’s trap network by DOC staff and volunteers shows that the motu is still predator FREE!!!

Kaitiakitanga in this case has always been a shared role. Key partnerships coupled with best practices can ensure that our environment will always be sustainable for the future.

HE TIROHANGA ANAMATA:  21-27 Mahuru 2020

Mental Health Awareness Week began on Monday and much like Te wiki o te reo māori is a daily commitment for us.  The theme, He Tirohanga Anamata: Reimagine Wellbeing Together: is an opportunity for everyone to reflect and rediscover what wellbeing looks like for us during COVID-19 and beyond.

Mahuru is the start of spring!!!!  Another word for Mahuru is ‘Te ahunga o uruao’ which means the new generation of whitebait.  We have received exciting reports that the bait are running hard this year, so grab a net and join our whitebait whānau and Uncle Les who is our kaitiaki.

The maramataka maori informs us that this week is Tamatea phase:  21 -24 September – Unpredictable energy. These days can be zero to 100! So be prepared for unpredictability in weather and also in people. Tamatea is not low or high, it is medium so the ground is fertile if you want to plant here. Huna (25 September) is a Utunga reciprocity day to give back to Tangaroa.  For more information, head to:  Learning to live by the maramataka: Mahuru

While this week is a about self care, we find it difficult not to include our loved ones.  So lets have fun!!!  Its as simple as reconnecting with nature and inspire whānau to do the same, maybe a hikoi up Hemi Matenga.  While the sunshine is here, invite whānau over for a kai.  Whanaungatanga is the remedy to the weeks of lock down and isolation. These types of activities can start the koreo.

There are MHAW 2020 digital resources available for you to use. You can download the new Facebook banner, as well as screensavers, e-signatures and more from here to share the love!  You’ll find more information on MHAW 2020 and on wellbeing here.

Looking for other resources? See the Five Ways to Wellbeing at Work toolkit to help you incorporate the Five Ways into your workplace, and the range of resources developed as part of the Mental Health Foundation's Working Well guides.

You could use MHAW to create a Mental Health Policy for your workplace. Use the Workplace Policy Builder to create a mental wellbeing policy that suites your business and staff, and complies with current law.  #MHAWNZ

POTENTIAL IWI EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES: Register your interest now

In the post-covid environment, the Trust is currently looking at potential opportunities to secure more employment opportunities for our people and we would like to know if there are any whānau out there who may be looking for physical mahi doing pest control, fencing or planting? At this stage we can’t guarantee this work but it’s helpful to know if there are whānau who would be able to take job opportunities if we can create any.
