Our Next Events

Our next event is the  Hookstone Regional  Event on the 27th September. Further details are here and as is now normal there will be no entry on the day. Entries close on the 20th Sept i.e TONIGHT. There is a Google form on the website for you to complete and submit your entry. Those of you who are helping there is a box for helper vouchers, so no need to pay.  As the picture shows the autumnal colours are starting to show through, and the map has been updated to include a new area around the viaduct.

Following on from this  the next series of Lamp O's will start on the 7th October and continue at fortnightly intervals on the 21st October, 4th and 18th of November with the last event on the 2nd December. We are looking for planners for the last two dates.   Quentin Harding is co-ordinating this year due to Richard recuperating from ill-health so if you fancy planning an event please contact Quentin You will need to pre-enter with Linda however for ease you can enter the whole series of five for the bargain price of £10 ( a saving of £5 on the individual price)     Details will appear on the website soon.   Fresh for this year and another learning experience from lockdown for many of us, Lamp Os will embrace the MapRun format (with the control card and sharpie option retained for those who prefer it or don't have a smart phone). The 4th November is a warm up for our AGM which you should have had details about from Ruth.

I hope you all enjoyed the summer restart series which culminated in 57 of you attending the Pine Woods event that Ruth planned. Here we see the new socially distanced starts.

Club AGM

An invitation is warmly extended by the committee for all members of Claro to attend the AGM.   Wednesday 4 November 2020 at Kairos Church Hall, 2 Harlow Terrace.   The AGM will commence at 7.30pm with a Lamp O held beforehand from the same venue.   We are hopeful the COVID guidance will enable us to meet (while adhering to safety measures) and will inform you of any changes to the plan.

Please consider how you would like to be involved with your club in the forthcoming year.  This could be by joining the committee or by volunteering to be one of the key officials at an event (our larger events call for a Planner, an Organiser and a qualified Controller) or to take on one of our many little events (ideal for all, including those who haven't organised or planned before).  Bring your thoughts to the AGM or contact one of the committee beforehand to discuss.

It's made with club orienteers in mind, and gives you a fun and chatty insight into the experiences of orienteers from the UK and beyond.

As a member of the GB team, Will brings his international experience, and as a journalist and commentator, Katherine gets to the heart of the guest's story.

Recent highlights include:
  • Georgia Jones (OROX) on pitching orienteering to newcomers whilst setting up the University of Exeter club
  • -Young star of international orienteering Simona Aebersold on getting really nervous before major races and how she distracts herself
  • Kirstin Maxwell (RR) on trying to train with vitamin deficiencies, and finding new trails in lockdown
  • Ben Mitchell (SBOC) tells us why he started mapping, and making maps for the JK 2021
New full-length episodes are released every fornight, and we have recently added some quick-fire "Sprint" episodes, meaning there's something new to listen to every week.

You can listen on desktop via Stitcher (https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/the-run-in-2), or on your phone. We're on most of the major podcast apps: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Podcast Addict etc. Just search "The Run In".
