There are certainly some creative spirits out there in bicycle land. This sensational entry was from Andrew. An incredible entry with it's excellent photoshopping, Adelaide theme and tabloid newspaper worthiness. He will take home a $100 voucher to a city business of his choice.

Martin captured our imaginations with his "updated" City of Adelaide calendar. "Don't forget to mark Driver's Month in your calendar, it's difficult to distinguish from business as usual here..."

Martin works in the city and has asked us to donate his voucher to those in need. "I understand Xpresso On Flinders provides suspended coffees and toasties, or did before the pandemic... perhaps they could chalk a few up on their board with $100? Along with supporting a local business who might be a bit down on foot traffic there are benefits for those who could really use a cuppa" You got it Martin.

When the votes came in there was no clear third place. We are therefore uping our prize money with a $50 voucher each to the third place winners and increasing our investment into city businesses. The RAA have released a Risky Rides survey, they plan to use the results of this survey to advocate for safer infrastructure for RAA members and other South Australians who choose to cycle. You can nominate up to 10 cycle lanes and cycle paths that pose a risk to cyclists in South Australia. All responses will remain confidential in line with their privacy policy and published results will be anonymised.
We encourage all members to participate in this survey which represents a significant opportunity to highlight any poor cycle infrastructure. Please complete the survey by Sunday 1 November

Councillors have unanimously supported a motion to encourage active transport during October (a response to ACC's driver's month). They will deliver new infrastructure including bike parking and use council resources to encourage people to walk and ride by promoting walking school buses and ride to work day among other initiatives.
Thank you to all Councillors for their support. Now it is our time to help out. We encourage everyone to call into a business in the area over the next month, take in your helmet and say hi. Maybe have a chat about how great it is for you and your bike to feel welcomed in the area!

The first concept of the upgrade to the Mike Turtur Bikepath at Goodwood raised a number of concerns from local residents regarding vegetation loss. The Mike Turtur Bikeway rebuild designed by DIT could have removed 53 trees, however following community feedback and input from Unley Council, this was reduced to 11. Following continuing discussions with DIT, the path was re-designed to skirt around trees in the middle of the path, resulting in the loss of only four trees and many more will be planted. This plan was approved unanimously and the Council voted to take over the lease and pay for lighting and extra planning as well.
The revised plan is available here (beware large file 35mb) as part of the Council meeting agenda, pages 43 to 48 provide a good visual of the plan and highlight the trees that have been saved.
It would seem that the final hurdle to this essential upgrade has now been passed and the final outcome will be a real boon for active transport users.

BISA joined GTA consultant Paul Froggart on site to walk through options to progress the Grange Greenway between the end of the current path on Meakin Terrace to the Grange station (and beach) for the City of Charles Sturt. GTA is known to engage early with the cycling community; an approach strongly supported by BISA. Our feedback focused on the best outcome for riders with a network focus, but also ways the project could improve walkability for residents with art, greening, and street upgrades while saving the $$ for key infrastructure including a new linking bridge.

Back in June, at the request of members, we wrote to the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport to get an update on the activation of the electronic pedestrian crossings at the North Adelaide Railway station, and at the nearby crossing linking to the parklands path.
Everyday bike riders have been waiting for over two years for activation to significantly improve ease of crossing in these locations. The current crossing is difficult to navigate and in winter the western side pools with water. This route is an important transport link for cyclists traveling between Bowden and North Adelaide.
We are pleased to advise that a recent response from the Minister indicates that the North Adelaide Railway Station crossing is in the design stage and activation is being planned as part of the Gawler Electrification Project. DIT is currently investigating if this crossing can be opened in a 'passive' mode in the meantime which would certainly assist current users.

Firstly our Special General meeting was held to decide if BISA was to become Bike Adelaide. We have been floating the idea for some time and support seemed to be strong. We are pleased to report that the motion to change our name was passed 22 for and 2 against. We now need to work through the administrative changes before its all official, we will keep you posted as we work through the required changes.
Our AGM followed with only slight changes to the committee. Ian Radbone, Nick and Heather did not renominate, however Ian will continue in his important role as Super Tuesday Coordinator. We welcome onboard new general committee members Ashley Mackey and Matt Jorgensen.

BISA members are invited to join Walking SAs' community walk to officially launch the first section of the Adelaide100 trail.
The Adelaide100 is a loop walking trail of over 100km that takes in the coast, hills and waterways of Adelaide. 35km of the trail has now been marked, and we are celebrating with a launch of the first section at Pinky Flat at 10am on 11 October, 2020, as part of Walktober. BISA has been approached by student Yu-Ching Lin from the University of South Australia who is conducting research about e-mobility (e-scooter/e-bike). To assist with this project users of an e-scooter (RIDE or Neuron)/e-bike (JUMP) in Adelaide CBD are asked to complete a survey. The survey only takes about 5 minutes. While in Adelaide we love car drivers other countries around the world continue with examples of quick solutions to the challenges of Covid-19. The opening of a new cycle lane across the Shannon Bridge in Limerick, Ireland during the Covid-19 pandemic has made a huge difference to their efforts to get more people on their bikes. One example including around 30 families forming the Limerick school cycle bus who are now getting to school by their favourite mode of transport - on bikes.
