Enhance Your Employability Through "Upskilling"

Whether you're actively job-seeking or considering a future job/career change, or hoping to grow and develop within your current job role, it's vital that you continuously seek out opportunities to learn new skills and gain new experiences. One of the best ways to enhance your resume and develop your professional self is through upskilling.

What is upskilling? It's the process of identifying gaps and seeking out growth opportunities to address them. For many employees, these gaps are often technical skills (such as learning new digital software and tools) and leadership skills (such as managing teams remotely). In fact, many companies are offering in-house programs to help their people upskill in order to retain strong employees and grow as a business.

Where can I find upskilling opportunities? You find online courses and programs in a wide variety of subject areas through websites such as LinkedIn Learning, edX, Coursera, Grow with Google, and Udemy. The Wake Forest School of Business even offers non-degree programs and short courses. Additionally, we hope you'll join us for our *free* virtual learning opportunities this Fall which are included below.

"As you start out in your first professional job, focus on building a skill set...
Did I take a single course in business? No. Had I ever worked on cause campaigns before? No. But I had learned so much about marketing, sales, and media in my time at ESPN that my insights were valuable and my perspective was fresh. It’s all about transferable skills."

"I would like to be remembered as someone who used whatever talent she had to do her work to the very best of her ability."
