Racial Equity Fund
A special Thank you to Nordson Corporation for donating $25K to the Fund!
The Community Foundation of Lorain County has created a Racial Equity Fund in an effort to build and support a Lorain County Coalition around issues of Racial Equity.
The Community Foundation of Lorain County invites non-profit organizations to help us deepen our work in promoting racial equity. Our Board of Directors has created a Racial Equity Fund to support the transformation of structures and systems with the goal of providing access and equal experiences.
The first application deadline is October 1. Grants will be made on a rolling basis with more information to come. Organizations can apply for up to $25K. A Community Advisory Committee will review each application.
As the 2020 Census nears the end of its self-response period, area social services agencies and the Lorain County Complete Count Committee have created a video plea to make sure everyone gets counted.
“We are particularly concerned that vulnerable populations will get undercounted,” said LCCAA President and CEO Jackie Boehnlein. “Historically, children, Hispanics and the poor are underrepresented in the census count.”
“Losing one person in the count could mean losing a much at $20,000 in federal funding over the next ten years,” said Victor Leandry, Executive Director of El Centro de Servicios Sociales, Inc. “An accurate count is extremely important to everyone in Lorain County.”
The video includes Boehnelin, Leandry, County Commissioner Matt Lundy, Elyria Mayor Frank Whitfield, Lorain Mayor Jack Bradley, and directors of other social services agencies and community foundations.
Lorain County currently has only a 75.1% response rate. Help us get the federal funds we need to build a stronger community by completing the Census today at 2020census.gov or by calling 1-844-330-2020.
The Lorain County COVID-19 Response Fund was established by funders in Lorain County to deploy much-needed resources to organizations that work with people and communities that may be most adversely impacted by COVID-19.
The Fund has three priority areas which are:
Emergency Assistance/Basic Needs (including assistance to our senior population)
Education and Youth Services (including arts & culture programs)
Infrastructure (including digital inclusion)
All partners are encouraging individual donors, companies, additional funders, and organizations to contribute to the Lorain County COVID-19 Response Fund via peoplewhocare.org. Donations of any amount are welcome, and all contributions qualify as charitable deductions. The group is actively seeking additional partners to contribute to the fund.
