COVID-19 in Ohio: State releases case reporting requirements for schools

Starting Sept. 8, parents and staff should notify Wayne Local Schools of any positive coronavirus diagnosis within 24 hours. Wayne Local Schools will then report student and staff cases to the Warren County Combined Health District, which will in turn report cases to the state.  Now that school is back in session, we ask for assistance with any positive coronavirus diagnosis.

Additionally, under the recent health order, school districts are also required to notify parents and guardians of cases in writing within 24 hours of receiving notification. Schools should provide as much information as possible without releasing protected information, Governor DeWine said.  “We understand there is a balance between privacy and transparency,” the governor said. “Again, we do not intend for protected health information to be released in our effort to provide information to Ohioans so they can make the right decisions for their family.”

The following is a template letter our school district will use to notify that a positive COVID-19 case has been reported to Wayne Local Schools:  Download Here

Wayne Local Schools are pleased to announce that beginning Monday, September 14, 2020, ALL ON-CAMPUS WAYNESVILLE STUDENTS will have the opportunity to receive a free class “A” breakfast and lunch from the Spartan cafes.

In partnership with Holly Prater of Ohio Department of Education and the USDA, Wayne Local Schools will have this program from September 14, 2020 through December 31, 2020.

NOTE: We have also asked the state to approve our VLA students
If approved, below will be the process:

The program will begin Friday 9/18/2020 for all VLA students.  You will need to contact Jeannie Camery at jcamery@wayne-local.com to reserve your meals.  We need to have a count to effectively fill the orders.

The food pickup will be from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM at the side of the Middle School Café entrance.  If the school has a delay, the time will change to 12:00 to 12:30 pickup.  If we are closed, the pickup will move to the next school day.  The VLA Waynesville students will receive a 5 day pre-packaged offering for the ensuing week.

Again, please note the importance of 1) this is pending state approval 2) you have to place an order or we cannot fill the request.

NEW FINANCE AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY CLASS

Wayneville High School has established a new class for high school students that will teach them the life skills of finance and personal responsibility.

The class is taught by Ron James, Treasurer for Wayne Local Schools.  Just sitting in on the class for a few minutes, it was obvious that Mr. James had the students captivated and engaged with the topic of the day.

Overall, the class will touch on real life topics such as credit score, the power of a paycheck, taxes, money management, investing, borrowing, financial services, and insurances.  Each topic can be quite expansive and invaluable for our young adult students to learn.

We are very lucky that our knowledgeable treasurer is willing to volunteer his time to serve the students in such a way, and teach them the skills that will be necessary for a lifetime.

THANK YOU MR. JAMES!!

With the help of an airplane and camera, we were able to obtain some really impressive aerial shots of the construction process.  The architectural plans and designs are really shaping up as the new elementary building is completely shaped up.

The focus is now becoming interior specifics and some of the smaller exterior details such as wall completion and installing of windows, as you can see from the last images.

THANK YOU TO DR. BYERS CHIROPRACTIC CENTER FOR SCHOOL SUPPLIES!

In coordination with several area and supporting businesses, a school supply drive was held at Byers Chiropractic Center in Waynesville, Ohio.

The event brought in bags and bags of supplies which were all delivered to the elementary school this week.

Thank you to all of the supporting businesses and contributors to the donation boxes.

Over the last several weeks, the seniors have been given an opportunity to purchase a parking spot to claim as their own during the school day for the duration of the school year.  In addition, they are permitted to paint their parking spot in a unique design.

While adhering to social distancing guidelines and following school protocols, the seniors have done a great job with their parking spots.  Most of the spots showcase a piece of that student's personality and the creativity is amazing.  If you have an opportunity to walk the parking lot one evening, it is impressive to say the least.

Safety Science Goggles Available $7

Safety Science goggles will be needed for all incoming Freshmen, and will be available for purchase at school for only $7.00.

They will be available before school in the Media Center....see Mrs. Miller

Lady Spartans Soccer Remain Unbeaten After 5th Game!

WHS Girls Soccer advances their record to 5-0 with their victory at Monroe Tuesday night.  The Lady Spartans beat the Lady Hornets 5-2 in a physical battle.  Freshman Samantha Erbach scored the first goal for Waynesville with 24 minutes remaining in the first half after senior Grace Moore beat the defense to the outside and slotted the ball across the middle.  Coming out of half-time with a 1-0 lead, Erbach put two more goals in the net off of assists from freshman Emme Greely and junior Maddie Beuchat.  Senior Jenna Foley scored the Lady Spartans' fourth goal by finding the back of the net on a cross from freshman Brooke Woody.  After Monroe finished a corner kick, Foley scored again assisted by sophomore Libby Bulach.

The win over Monroe is the 5th win in a string of victories that the Varsity has put together to start their season.  Waynesville kicked off their run with a 14-0 win over Carlisle and an 11-0 win over Preble Shawnee.  Then, they travelled to Alter, where they won 2-1 on goals by Erbach and Woody (both assisted by Foley), and to Dixie, where they won 12-0.

Seniors Leah Butterbaugh, Jenna Foley, Hannah Gill, and Emma Sizer are the captains of the Varsity team, which also comprises seniors Grace Moore, Teagan Cassidy, and Reagan Hardyman, juniors Savanna Amburgy, Maddie Beuchat, Kate Handle, and Emma Whitaker, sophomores Gracyn Armstrong, Libby Bulach, Alyza Camp, Allie Freese, and Laine Kuhns, and freshmen Samantha Erbach, Emme Greely, Caroline Stupp, and Brooke Woody.

The JV team won big over Preble Shawnee but fell short against Alter and Monroe.  Their record so far is 1-2.  Playing JV are juniors Eryn Barrett, Lillian Crumback, and Lexi Youtsey, sophomores Gracyn Armstrong, Libby Bulach, Jenna Bulcher, Alyza Camp, Katie Dick, Havanna Hanauer, and Emmy Lezotte, and freshmen Sammie Boswell, Addison Hardyman, Jesse Hardyman, Kyla Harvey, Jillian Layne, Reagan Russell, Danie Scamorza, Kayann Whitt, and Lorin Winterbotham.

The Lady Spartans resume play Tuesday, Sep. 15, here at home against Milton Union.  The JV kicks off at 5 pm and the Varsity starts at 7 pm.

SPARTAN CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS DOMINATE AT BELLBROOK INVITATIONAL!!!

Last Saturday was another great race day for our Spartan Cross Country teams! We traveled to one of the athletes’ favorite courses at Bellbrook High School. This location is widely known as a “classic” Cross Country course-as it offers hills, water, fields, and a lot of fun for our runners!  Our High School Girls team, ranked #5 in the State, took home the first place trophy as they captured the team championship by a whopping 50 points!  Our Lady Spartan runners were lead by the Erbach sisters.  Freshman Samantha Erbach lead the pack from the start, winning the race by an astounding 42 seconds!  Her counterpart, senior sister Hope Erbach, came in close behind running strong and winning third place on the day!  Our High School Boys team, ranked #3 in the State, won the second place team championship trophy and records were broken in the process!  In addition to breaking the Bellbrook course record, senior standout Kaden Harvey also broke the 5K school record running the course in a blistering fast race time of 15:52.3 seconds!  In the High School boys open race, AJ Seidenschmidt got out in front and never looked back!  He captured gold as he won first place!  Our Junior High girls and boys teams both took home the runner-up trophies coming in second place! Our Junior High Lady Spartan duo of Olivia Walters and Kendal Erbach came in first and second place respectfully; while Junior High boys’ teammates Celtan Walton and Wade Von Handorf came in second and third place in their race! This weekend, our Spartan runners will divide and conquer, as our Varsity Boys and Girls teams will be running at Mason and our Boys Open runners and Junior High teams will compete at Brookville.  We are looking forward to another outstanding performance by this very special and talented group of Spartan Runners
