Literacy Leaders and Coaches Network 2020-2021 - Access the First Podcast!
The Literacy Leaders and Coaches Network (LLCN) is taking a new approach to literacy learning in the 2020-2021 school year. We have a podcast! Our LLCN Brief will be released several times throughout the year on a schedule similar to the planned LLCN dates. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are not able to gather our 120+ members face-to-face at this time. While we look forward to connecting in person when it is once again safe to do so, we have created this format as a way to stay connected in the meantime.
This first episode of the LLCN Brief features Mark Raffler and Sarah Shoemaker introducing the changes to the Literacy Leaders and Coaches Network for the 2020-2021 school year. We detail what those changes look like, how to access this podcast throughout the year, and share some content around assessment mindset as well as remote learning.

Essential Social Inquiry - Social Studies that Sticks
The 2020-21 school year is here! While none of us know for certain what challenges the year will bring, this professional learning option for social studies teachers will attempt to provide you the skills and strategies you need (in bite sized chunks) in both a synchronous and asynchronous fashion.

Professional Learning around Holocaust Texts
Creating Context for Teaching Night
Learn how to prepare students to read and understand Night within the larger historical framework of the Holocaust.
Examine Jewish life in Eastern Europe to provide cultural context for Night.
Examine the history of antisemitism to provide context before students read Night.
Discuss and identify themes, life lessons and the current relevance of Night.
Explore the use of multimedia assets including using visual history testimonies and other primary sources and materials to support the effective teaching of Night.
Creating Context for Teaching the Diary of Anne Frank
Provide Michigan ELA teachers with strategies and resources to create context for teaching one of the most frequently-taught Holocaust texts: Anne Frank's Diary of a Young Girl.
Understand and apply pedagogical principles of effective Holocaust education to the teaching of Anne Frank's diary.
Explore the historical and cultural context within which Anne Frank and her family lived.
Explore and learn how to use a variety of resources, including visual history testimonies and other primary sources and materials, to teach Anne Frank's diary.
Bring your own book or books will be available to borrow for the training.
In this session we will look at 7 free eResources (eBooks K-8, Explora Elementary, PebbleGo, World Book Kids, Britannica, NoveList & eJournals) from the Michigan eLibrary and learn how to 1) share persistent links into learning management systems 2) drop articles and eBooks into Google Classroom and Google Drive 3) access built-in supports such as audio and translation; 4) connect content to curriculum; and 5) access individual publications such as Educational Leadership, Scholastic Scope, Ranger Rick, Dynamath, Ladybug, Cricket, and many more!
In this session we will look at 8 free eResources (eBooks High School, Explora Middle School, History Reference Center, Science Reference Center, LearningExpress Library, Britannica, Read It! and eJournals ) from the Michigan eLibrary and learn how to 1) share persistent links into learning management systems; 2) drop articles and eBooks into Google Classroom and Google Drive; 3) access built-in supports such as audio and translation; 4) connect content to curriculum; and 5) access individual publications such as Educational Leadership, School Library Journal, People, Wired, Sports Illustrated and many more!
