Dear Family Members and Advocates,

We are all very excited to be moving into Phase 3 of recovery from the COVID 19 pandemic.  Louisiana is making progress and so is Magnolia.  I am happy to report that everyone tested for COVID 19 last Friday received a negative result.

I am aware that this raises questions regarding the status of our current polices on in-home visitation and the day program.  The current restrictions placed on both have been imposed by the Louisiana Department of Health and the Office of Public Health.  Therefore, we must wait for them to be lifted by those entities before our Board of Governors and administrative team can adjust our current polices.  However, we have come up with a plan for families to be able to visit their loved ones in a designated space on our main campus.  To have this plan work well and keep everyone safe, we will initiate the following on Tuesday, September 14, 2020:
  • All family visits must be scheduled with the Recreation Director (Mary McDuff, 504-460-9701) at least two days in advance.
  • Only 2 visitors per resident at a time.
  • All visitors and residents shall always adhere to social distancing protocols issued by the CDC.
  • Visitation will take place at a designated area at 100 Central Avenue.
  • Case managers will coordinate transportation for their clients to and from 100 Central Avenue for their scheduled visits.
  • Upon arrival all visitors will be screened by the Site Manager on duty for signs and symptoms of COVID 19.
  • Visitors will sanitize hands after being screened and determined to be sign/symptom free.
  • All visitors and residents must always wear masks.
  • The resident and his/her guest(s) will be escorted to the designated visitation area where they are to remain throughout the visit.
  • Visits shall be limited to 30-45 minutes.
  • There shall be no more than 5 concurrent visitation sessions at any given time.
  • Sanitation supplies will be made available and visitors shall spray surfaces used upon departure.
As we move forward and as restrictions are lifted by our governing entities, we will reassess and revise our policies and practices as we deem appropriate, always keeping the safety of your loved ones and our staff a top priority.

As there have been no directives issued regarding the re-opening of day programs, we are not able to address that at this time.  We are, however, working on bringing in some new activities and learning objectives for when we can re-open.  Please stay tuned for information to come on virtual events and activities in which we hope that our day participants will be able to participate!

Wishing you all the best,

 Jennifer Hebert
