As cool as a swooping falcon!

Mon. Sept. 7 - We enjoyed a restful holiday on Monday (JK we actually worked).

Tue. Sept. 8 - We dove into listener new music picks for August. And as usual, we begin at the beginning, with Steven Routledge. He selected music from Night Cobra, All Yours, Another Sky and Will Johnson. Jesse from San Antonio chipped in new selections from Black Marble and Eric Slick.

Wed. Sept. 9 - Wednesday was a three-fer listener new music episode, featuring calls from Adam Coop (Biffy Clyro and Wiirmz) Harris from South Carolina (Nation of Language, Emma Swift and Luna) and Tim Hoffman (Roachford).

Thurs. Sept 10 - New music picks kept jammin' on Thursday. Liam McIndoe teed up Phoenix Foundation, Anna von Hausswolff and Carcass. And Vasant Ramamurthy gave us a call to discuss Mike Polizze, Flower and Bully.

Fri. Sept. 11 - We closed out the week — and our August new music extravaganza — with a wonderful call from Walt Falconer in the Falcon's Nest. In addition to Walt, we heard from our pals Jay Ignacio and Scott from south Kansas City, Missouri. Thanks to them and everyone who dialed us up with new music. Talk to you all in September!

Friday New Releases: All of the New Albums

There's plenty to pick from this week, so call, click or yell to buy these fresh platters!

Doves - The Universal Want (Heavenly/Virgin)
After a decade-long hiatus, this Manchester trio returns with a new batch of altera-radio-ready rock songs. There are a lot of midtempo tunes here, a sign, perhaps, of an aging band. But fans will fall right back into the grooves.

The Flaming Lips - American Head (Warner)
One band that will never be accused of settling into a groove is Flaming Lips. Although this experimental band also gets mellow on its new release, there’s a delicate touch here that gives the music an understated punch. Works equally well as late-night or early-morning music.

Lo Tom - LP2 (Lo Tom)
The latest project from David Bazan (Pedro The Lion) is this band of indie buddies. This is the second album for Lo Tom, recommended for those who like intelligent guitar rock by a master of that form.

Marilyn Manson - We are Chaos (Loma Vista/Concord)
If ever there were a year for doom rock, 2020 is it. Where Manson’s music once came off as a campy escapism, it now may serve as catharsis. This new album, his 11th, is getting strong reviews for its ability to capture what we’re feeling.

Roachford - Twice in a Lifetime (BMG)
Listener Tim Hoffman recently talked up the work of R&B singer Andrew Roachford on the pod. After you’ve finished your Marilyn Manson shock therapy, this is your happy and hopeful recovery treatment.
