After a beautiful summer with many good Sunday experiences, we are getting ready to move indoors for Masses. Our plan is to go indoors on Sunday, October 4, with Mass in the lower hall at St. James at 8:30 AM, then Mass in Spanish at 11:30 AM at IC, and an evening Mass at 6:00 PM at IC. A Mass will also be recorded and put on our website each weekend, in English and in Spanish, for those who are still reluctant to be indoors with a lot of people. We also will begin to livestream a daily Mass on Tuesdays at 9:00 AM,after which I will be at the door of the church for 30 minutes for those who want to come by to receive Holy Communion.
Why start at the lower church at St. James? There are a variety of reasons, based on good science and common sense. In reading the science, the biggest concern seems to be air circulation. Large groups of people (even with the required masks) seem to present a problem for exposure if there is not proper ventilation. The advantage of the hall is that it has three large exhaust fans that will be turned on during the Mass. We will place the (temporary) altar to the side of the room, so the air flow is going up and away from people.From a commonsense point of view, there is a lot of room for distancing, and the hall is easy to access. The bathrooms are close by, and there are multiple exits (although all will be entering from the one side door). We will guide people to spaces that allow for singles and groups and maintain safe distancing. Our plan is to have people remain in their chairs during Communion and have the Eucharistic ministers bring Communion to you if you choose to receive. This is somewhat imitative of the parking lot Mass and the practice at the Spanish outdoor Mass, and it has worked very well. This eliminates extra movement and maintains social distancing during the whole Mass. At the conclusion of Mass, we will dismiss people to exit via the door closest to their seat. For those who struggle with movement, of course, the ramp entrance will always be available.
At Immaculate Conception, we plan to put fans in the windows to achieve the same effect in the main church. The window sashes have been cleaned to remove atmospheric dust and to allow the fans to exhaust as much air as possible. For overflow at the Mass, we plan to set up seats in the lower church and broadcast the Mass downstairs.At the same time, we will broadcast a recorded Mass on Facebook. For those watching from home, if you want to receive Communion, a Eucharistic minister will be available in the parking lot for 30 minutes after the conclusion of each weekend Mass. If you are bringing Communion home to people, we ask that you stay behind at the dismissal and plan to receive the Eucharist in the provided pyxes.

Building news: We have been doing some painting and repair of the hall and bathrooms at IC. The stairs going down from the upper church (behind the altar) have been repaired and painted, as well as the ramps to the bathrooms and the stairs to the side entrance behind the Mary grotto. I also want to thank Lou Schoenthal for his work on repairing and preparing the grotto for more fish. The plan is to hold off now on restocking the fish until next spring.
Después de un hermoso verano con muchas buenas experiencias dominicales, nos estamos preparando para mudarnos al interior. Nuestro plan es ir adentro el domingo 4 de octubre con misa en el salón inferior de St. James a las 8:30 AM y luego continuar con una misa a las 11:30 AM en español en IC, seguida de una misa a las 6:00 PM también en IC. Además, habrá una misa grabada y compartida en nuestro sitio web todos los domingos para aquellos que todavía son reacios a estar en el interior con mucha gente. Nuestro plan también es que las personas permanezcan en sus sillas en el momento de la comunión y que los ministros eucarísticos lleven la comunión a quien la vaya a recibir mientras ustedes permanecen en sus sillas. Esto es algo que vamos a imitar de la Misa en el estacionamiento y de la práctica en la Misa al aire libre en español porque ha funcionado muy bien. De esta manera, se elimina el movimiento extra y se mantiene nuestro distanciamiento social durante todo el tiempo que estamos en la Misa. Al finalizar la Misa animaremos a las personas, pero no les exigiremos, que salgan por las puertas de salida más cercanas a ellas. Para aquellos que tienen dificultades al moverse, por supuesto, la entrada de la rampa siempre estará disponible.
También planeamos colocar ventiladores en las ventanas de Inmaculada en un esfuerzo por lograr el mismo efecto. Las hojas de las ventanas se han limpiado para eliminar el polvo atmosférico y permitir que los ventiladores extraigan la mayor cantidad de aire posible teniendo en cuenta su diseño. Para el exceso de flujo en la Misa, instalaremos asientos en la iglesia inferior y transmitiremos la misa abajo.
Al mismo tiempo, transmitiremos la misa grabada en Facebook y luego esperaremos media hora, después de que concluya la misa, para ofrecer la comunión a los que la vieron en casa y quieran comulgar. Cuando vengan se van a encontrar con un Ministro de la Eucaristía en el estacionamiento. Noticias del edificio: Hemos estado pintando y reparando el pasillo y los baños en IC.
