Courage
Courage is Hilburn's theme this year. And while the world is buzzing with change, we encourage you to #ChooseCourage. Embarking on a new year—or school year, always promises a fresh start. There may be unexpected changes or challenges, but in time, we manage and adapt. For some, courage doesn't come easily. Others may not be born with it, but fortunately, courage is a learnable skill, and each one of us has the capacity of being courageous.

The Hilburn PTA Membership Drive continues. Remember to join by Mon, Sep 14 (tonight) to be entered in a drawing for a giftbag of Hilburn swag and a few surprises for your child's virtual learning. Winner will be announced at the end of our General meeting tomorrow, Sep 15.
We are up by 74 members since our last check-in! So, great progress—let's grow even further. Thanks you for your continued support. The goal is to reach 300 members by the end of the month.

Spirit Wear
We are excited to announce that Spirit Wear will be on sale this week! On Tue, Sep 15, you can place your order online for Fall Spirit Wear. Want some comfy clothes to wear while virtual learning? We got you covered! Visit the Hilburn PTA MemberHub Store to browse through this year's selections. Our mascot Hilburt is featured wearing his mask on one of the T-shirts for 2020. Remember this year as the year we #ChooseCourage. Spirit Wear sales end on Tue, Sep 29.
Spirit Wear orders will have carpool pick-up once they are fulfilled, around mid-end of October.

Our first Family Night Out is scheduled for Tue, Sep 22 from 6-9pm at Leesville Tap Room! Click to commit to order food from there. When you purchase your meal, mention Hilburn and follow the restaurant's instructions to receive 20% of your meal's price donated back to Hilburn PTA.

Due to the School Board Candidate Forum being held on the same day, families are encouraged to have an opportunity to hear from the candidates. The Principal Chat has been modified to be presented as a video, and will be available on the school website on Wed, 9/23. Please submit your questions here.

Hilburn PTA wants YOU to be an informed VOTER. Do you know who is running for school board? Do you know the issues facing the school board?
Learn more by attending a virtual School Board Candidate Forum hosted by Wake County PTA Council. The forum is on Wed, Sep 23, 2020 at 6:30pm-8:00pm. The Wake County PTA Advocacy Committee invites you to hear answers from all the school board candidates running for office in 2020.
To join this virtual event, all individuals must register and submit questions beforehand.

Grounds & Gardens
The Hilburn Learning Garden is still producing, and the Grounds still need our love! Interested in helping out? There are many small projects (e.g. moving mulch, repairing garden beds) that need to be done, preferably before the kids come back to school. Sign up here for the specific projects!
Access to the area will be coordinated by Grounds & Gardens Co-Chair Stephanie Avett.

Karen Brown joins the Hilburn PTA Board as the new Middle School VP for the 2020-2021 School Year. She is an NCSU Graduate and a huge Wolfpack fan!
Karen enjoys going on cruises with her family and volunteering with the Girl Scouts. She is excited to try the recently announced new Girl Scout (French-toast inspired) cookie called Toast-Yay! Karen and the MS team are planning some great activities for Middle School to look forward to!
