"The arts empower. The arts give a voice to the voiceless. The arts help transform American communities and, as I often say, the result can be a better child, a better town, a better nation, and certainly a better world. Let’s champion our arts action heroes, emulate them, and make our communities everything we want them to be.”
~ Robert L. Lynch, President, Americans for the Arts

Stratobowl Historic Hot Air Balloon Launch

Saturday, September 12 | 6 AM
Sunday, September 13 | 6 AM

The Stratobowl was first made famous in the 1930's when high altitude balloons launched from the site, visited the stratosphere and made history. The site has long been acknowledged as an important part of aviation history. Now, once a year pilots and their balloons flock to the site in honor of those that came before us; to bring awareness to this beautiful historic site. Annually, the event hosts approximately 10 balloons during this weather permitting 'sunrise only' three-day event.

Even though we are not together in-person, you are still in our thoughts. Many events are postponed until 2021, but there are lots of other opportunities to connect through on-line classes and performances.

As children chalk their walks and paint kindness rocks, Art has played an important role in connecting and healing our collective trauma. Arts are important and need our help.
Please donate to the Allied Arts Fund.

To the Black Hills Symphony family:
We had planned to start our Season Ticket sales beginning the first week of August; however, there are still too many unanswered questions. As you all well know, the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are not nearly over in our community. We are working with the Performing Arts Center of Rapid City and the Rapid City Area Schools to clarify how we move forward with orchestra concerts this fall and winter.

As it stands right now, the PACRC and the RCAS are unable to commit to fully opening the doors in September. We thank you for your patience while we continue to assess the situation and try to make the best decisions for the entire Black Hills Symphony family.

Please know that we are working hard to develop a Season that will still intrigue and delight you, while at the same time, keeping everyone as safe as we can. We will be releasing information on individual concerts as we have them.

Every Dollar Counts!
The COVID-19 pandemic continues its stranglehold on our arts sector. Since the first U.S. case was reported on January 20, 2020, cancellations and closings have taken place at nearly every arts organization across the Black Hills, and nearly two-thirds of our community’s artists are now unemployed. Organizations we support, derive the majority of their income from live shows, a profession that is very hard to translate to the "work from home" environment. This means many organizations, as well as their crew members, will be out of reliable work indefinitely.
New research by the Small Business Administration shows that “Arts, Entertainment, and Recreation” is now the sector of the economy with highest percentage of “temporary closings” (53.3 percent of businesses surveyed).

Your support during this challenging time is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

The Allied Arts Fund ensures dynamic, sustainable, cultural opportunities by enriching our Communities through the advancement of the Arts.
We need your help to keep our mission alive.

Charitable Giving Tax Deduction

All taxpayers will be able to deduct up to $300 in charitable contributions, even if they do not itemize. It's a good time for those who have a reliable income to make a charitable contribution to keep their favorite arts organizations in business.

An "above-the-line" or universal charitable giving incentive for contributions made in 2020 of up to $300. This provision will now allow all non-itemizer taxpayers (close to 90% of all taxpayers) to deduct charitable contributions from their tax return, an incentive previously unavailable to them. Additionally, the stimulus legislation lifts the existing cap on annual contributions for itemizers from 60 percent of adjusted gross income (AGI) to 100 percent of AGI for contributions made in 2020.
