THE ROUTE

Stage 6 - Castelfidardo - Senigallia (171km)
With mixed terrain stage in the first part and then flat, Stage 6 is not the most demanding. From Numana, the route passes through the outskirts of Ancona, then Offagna, Jesi and Ostra to arrive in Senigallia where it will cover four laps of a circuit that’s around 16km. Completely flat, it’s on wide and well-paved city streets and the neighboring countryside on wide roads with sometimes worn surfaces. The final 3km are entirely in the town, with the last curve at 1000m from the finish.

Last km
The last kilometers are ridden over the stage’s final circuit. Completely flat, they take place on very wide and well paved city streets in addition to wide, and occasionally well-worn, roads in the neighboring countryside. The final 3km are based entirely in the town, with a final bend at the 1000m to go mark. The finishing straight, asphalt and 8.5m wide, features a slight incline. Of note are two railway underpasses, situated at the two extremities of the circuit.

CASTELFIDARDO
Perched on a hill within the province of Ancona, Castelfidardo is one of the best-known landmarks of Italian unification, as it was the site of the battle fought between the Kingdom of Sardinia and the Papal States on September 18, 1860. And there is more: Castelfidardo is also a renowned accordion manufacturing centre, with Paolo Soprani being the pioneer of this craft. The international accordion museum (Museo Internazionale della Fisarmonica) has a collection of over 350 instruments. Major landmarks include the Monumento nazionale delle Marche – a national monument celebrating the battle of Castelfidardo – and Piazzale Don Minzoni, also known as “Porta Marina”, which offers a stunning view of the surroundings. The crystal clear waters and the iconic beaches of the Riviera del Conero, such as Spiaggia delle due Sorelle and Spiaggia Sassi Neri – a favoured destination for snorkelling enthusiasts – are just a little distance away. Nature lovers can enjoy going for a walk within the Conero Regional Park.

SENIGALLIA
Senigallia has been a Blue Flag winner since 1997. This, together with its iconic “velvet beach”, has made it a favoured destination for sea lovers and more. The town is a treasure chest of architectural splendour, such as the Rocca Roveresca (one of the major military buildings of Italian Renaissance), and art, such as the Madonna del Rosario by Federico Barocci, which is on display at the local gallery of sacred art. Notable sights also include the Duomo (18th century), Portici Ercolani and Fontana dei Cavallucci Marini. In spring and summertime, the city comes to life with plenty of events organised by Teatro La Fenice and Rotonda a Mare, and food festivals such as the “Sagra del Carciofo” in May and the “Festival Enogastronomico marchigiano” in July. Rock and roll enthusiasts gather here in August to celebrate the Summer Jamboree week, while the Fiera di Sant’Agostino eventually bids farewell to summer. Nearby, the towns of Corinaldo (with its mediaeval walls) and Fano are definitely worth a visit. Sea enthusiasts will love the marvellous beaches of the town, such as Spiaggia di Velluto, Spiaggia di Ponente and Spiaggia di Levante. Sirolo and Numana, beyond the Conero promontory, are the perfect destination for a day trip.
