Welcome to In an Auscape! What's an auscape? It's a word my friend Katie came up with that means "The sensation of a second stretching into a minute, a mile, or a year." Is that fresh or what? This newsletter is where I'll describe my (bi)weekly minutes, miles, and years. Thanks for coming along for the ride.
What I'm About
Our road trip is reaching its conclusion, which is to say we're driving a little more and relaxing a little less as you read this, working our way through St. Louis and Kentucky and West Virginia before we arrive in our new home.

The trip has been pretty great, from national parks to big cities to visits with people we love and a lot in between. As I write this, on Friday evening, I'm feeling a little rundown after a kinda tough drive with not enough coffee, but I'm planning to rally and have a big day in St. Louis tomorrow (thanks, everyone, for such great recommendations!).

There's too much to tell you all the deets, but here's a little rose, bud, and thorn you can hold onto until we talk again!

Thorn: Driving 2 cars is a butt.

Bud: There are so many places I want to spend more time, or where COVID has impacted what is possible. We couldn't go to Prairie Lights Bookstore, for example, and we definitely didn't have enough time in Minneapolis. There are so many parks and trails we didn't get to, and so many questions about how to make decisions and draw boundaries and decide what we can and should (or can't and shouldn't) do.

Rose: I mean, where to begin. The Tetons? Old Faithful? Drinking cider and eating Brazilian dinner in a wildlife habitat that is also a bar in Missoula? Whitewater rafting? Glam Doll doughnuts or the thousand incredible coffees we've made sure to drink? There's been a lot of bright spots, and I'm sure there are still more to come.
Podcast Recommendations
Scene On Radio, Season 4: It's only appropriate to listen to an American history podcast while traveling across the USA, and this one does not disappoint. If you haven't heard seasons 2 and 3, those are also wonderful.

Democracy Now!: A little dose of daily news, always depressing and enlightening.

Don't Ask Tig: An excellent balm for the times when I've heard too much hard stuff. Tig Notaro and guests answer listener advice questions. I especially loved the one with Sean Hayes.

The Tight Rope with Dr. Cornel West: I mean, you can't go wrong, he's so incredibly brilliant and has an excellent radio voice.

Sunstorm: A brand new second season of Ai-Jen Poo and Alicia Garza on Sunstorm is just beginning, and their first guest was Megan Rapinoe!

Also, if you're not using Stitcher to collect your podcasts, I highly recommend! So easy to use, download if needed, and discover new shows.
