I would like to send my greetings to all members of Trianon and friends as we passed the weekend of a not-to-be concert, when we would have been commemorating the 80th Anniversary of The Battle of Britain in 1940.
Thoughts are necessarily dominated by the sadness of not meeting as a Group and making music together, whilst only partially tempered by the wonderful memories of the Diamond Jubilee this time last year.
Please keep faith with Trianon as we search for ways in which we can return to making music together in a constantly changing and challenging environment.

Many members of Trianon will feature in Arts in Celebration! - the new initiative by Ipswich Arts Association comprising videos, most of which have been produced during lock-down. Artists, authors, bands, choirs, dance, drama, ensembles, monologues, orchestras, poets and much more will be featured by the IAA website and You Tube as from Sunday 27 September for one month. Do visit the site and sample some of the 6 hours plus of entertainment available for free.
Do try to read the Ipswich Arts Association column (sometimes a page) in the East Anglian Daily Times. This appears either on a Tuesday or Wednesday each week and is written by Chris. It includes up to date news of what is happening locally
A vacancy has occurred for a new member of Trianon's Music Committee. This has resulted from the retirement from the Committee of a member of the contralto section, and so it is a contralto volunteer that is needed. Please contact either Cath Bury, Chris Green or Gillian Williams if you wish to put your name forward. Currently the Music Committee is meeting by Zoom. Please make contact by Saturday 19 September.
Trianon News and other important information from Trianon will be published in print format in the early part of October and will be sent to members by post. Please watch out for this vital mailing. The posting will also include formal notice of the Trianon Annual General Meeting which will be scheduled for late October and will be by Zoom.

What made you fall in love with Classical music?

I was the youngest of three girls born in the early fifties and my elder sister was just the right age when Elvis Presley came along. We had a record player and usually only bought records with birthday or Christmas money. However my parents had been in London during the war and attended wartime concerts and had started to collect the records from these which we were not allowed to touch!
I was usually the only one left at home, Mum was busy in the kitchen and so I spent a lot of time with my Dad. We did carpentry, car mechanics, a bit of decorating and home maintenance and then...a major project ...creating a stereo unit. Why my father did not just buy one I do not know as this was the early sixties and they had just come on the market. The garage was full of odds and ends... such as a turntable and four loud speakers acquired at some earlier point. I cannot assess the hours he put into this project but I was the sound engineer, so I would be in the other room to hear whether the music had come through....or putting the record on the turntable! The music being played was some of my father’s records, a mixed selection of popular and classical works which, when the sound did come though I came to recognise.
He did get it working enough to his satisfaction and my abiding memory was that at around 6pm on a Sunday evening, Mum going off to church, record player on, whisky and book by his side sitting in his favourite chair in front of the fire and an hour of classical music which we both enjoyed. So I came to know Bruch’s Violin Concerto, Beethoven's Pastoral was the favourite, Elgar's Cello Concerto and, now and then, Frank Sinatra. There was very little choral music... I picked all of that up at school, but from the age of seven and for a few years after, that set the pattern for an abiding interest in music of every genre.

Chandra Grover, TMG soprano and Director of Felixstowe Harmonies and the Birkbeck Singers, is running a series of singing technique and voice production sessions on Zoom.
