Dear Community, 

Despite having to cancel yesterday’s public swearing-in ceremony, due to hazardous air quality from the fires and devastation surrounding our City and our great state—Commissioner Dan Ryan was sworn in privately by the Honorable Judge Xiomara Torres. The ceremony was deeply moving and you were all there in spirit.

Governor Barbara Roberts joined via phone and set the tone for the event with her remarks. 

"Dan, you see the bigger picture and the broader vision. You listen and learn. You’re compassionate and open-minded—and those are essential attributes for city council leadership and service. And today, in this special ceremony, at the special time, we come together to celebrate Portland’s newest asset—our friend, our community contributor, Portland’s drum major, and our city’s newest council member, the honorable Dan Ryan."

The Honorable Judge Xiomara Torres arrived in person to administer the oath of office.

Commissioner Ryan spoke from the heart about his commitment to serve the City of Portland.

"I know we all run individual campaigns and we come in very independently because of that. Yet, I can’t think of a better time to be clear that we are a team. Starting today, I’m looking forward to working with Mayor Wheeler, Commissioners Fritz, Eudaly, Hardesty, and my soon-to-be colleague, Commissioner-elect Rubio—and whoever is on this team of five in January. Together we will serve our scrappy River City and build our community forward.
