Children's Liturgy of the Word Lessons - click Here.

Children's Liturgy of the Word is a ritual for the proclamation of God's word with children appropriate to their understanding. Children leave the larger parish assembly during Mass to celebrate a concurrent Liturgy of the Word, but then return back to Mass for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Our catechists have continued providing lessons in an online format, which families can do together!

Missals Available at St Andrew
Missals (bilingual), Breaking Bread, and seasonal inserts are on the front porch of the rectory (806 NE Alberta). Feel free to pick up one or two per household. Plan to keep these books for the remainder of the liturgical year. Songs and numbers for Breaking Bread are posted in the e-mail Sunday Newsletter and on the live stream so you can participate from home in the Sunday Mass.

Congratulations to Dan Ryan, St Andrew parishioner and newly elected Portland City Commissioner!

Dear Community,

Despite having to cancel yesterday’s public swearing-in ceremony, due to hazardous air quality from the fires and devastation surrounding our City and our great state—Commissioner Dan Ryan was sworn in privately by the Honorable Judge Xiomara Torres. The ceremony was deeply moving and you were all there in spirit.

Governor Barbara Roberts joined via phone and set the tone for the event with her remarks.

"Dan, you see the bigger picture and the broader vision. You listen and learn. You’re compassionate and open-minded—and those are essential attributes for city council leadership and service. And today, in this special ceremony, at the special time, we come together to celebrate Portland’s newest asset—our friend, our community contributor, Portland’s drum major, and our city’s newest council member, the honorable Dan Ryan."
– Governor Barbara Roberts

The Honorable Judge Xiomara Torres arrived in person to administer the oath of office.

"Our country and our city are in desperate need of strong leadership. We are facing so many difficulties right now, and I believe you have the skills to bring us together and to move us forward."
– Judge Xiomara Torres

Commissioner Ryan spoke from the heart about his commitment to serve the City of Portland.

"I know we all run individual campaigns and we come in very independently because of that. Yet, I can’t think of a better time to be clear that we are a team. Starting today, I’m looking forward to working with Mayor Wheeler, Commissioners Fritz, Eudaly, Hardesty, and my soon-to-be colleague, Commissioner-elect Rubio—and whoever is on this team of five in January. Together we will serve our scrappy River City and build our community forward.
– Commissioner Dan Ryan

Your collective support spilled over from the campaign to the ceremony yesterday. And even though we were not able to connect in person—the outpouring of well wishes was uplifting, affirming, and deeply appreciated.

Sincerely,
Commissioner Ryan, Denise, Kellie

Thinking about becoming a catholic?
The RCIA (the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the process for welcoming adult newcomers into the Catholic Church.  If you are thinking about becoming Catholic, and have not received one or more of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation), then this process is for you.To keep everyone safe during the pandemic, our preparation for the Sacraments will consist of short videos to watch at home, Zoom sessions on Sunday from 11:00-12:30 PM and informal weekly check-ins on Wednesdays evenings. We will formally begin our sessions this Sunday September 13, 2020. For more information contact Michael Prendergast mprendergast@archdpdx.org
We also welcome any parishioner who may want to serve as a sponsor or be part of the RCIA team to contact Michael
