Dear LEAD supporters,

As we get ready to start a new year of LEAD programming, and our girls begin the new school year, we would like to share with you some LEAD updates and events to look forward to as well as our appreciation for all of YOU, our village, that have and will make this challenging and very different year possible for our girls.

Welcome Karen!

We would like to welcome Karen Harris to the LEAD team. Karen will be serving as a program facilitator and family liaison. Karen has more than thirty years of experience working with teens and families. She is passionate about helping others overcome their challenges and realize their full potential. Karen holds a master of arts degree in public affairs, a master of science in counseling and a bachelor’s degree in sociology. She is a licensed clinical mental health counselor supervisor, a licensed clinical addiction specialist and she holds a National Boards certification in school counseling. We are very excited and lucky to have Karen on our team.

LEAD Girls Community Outreach

Our girls are determined to encourage youth to keep moving forward!

To meet the immediate needs of youth in our communities, we've launched the LEAD Cares Initiative. This initiative, led by LEAD Girls, supports students as they head back to school. We are excited to partner with local community groups to provide mini care packages to youth in Forsyth County. Packages will be filled with school essentials, stress relievers and a fun screen-free activity.

City officials are urging residents to come complete the census and then pick up free face masks, food and goodie bags with coloring books, gift cards and other items during four drive-through “community census days” in September. We encourage everyone who has not completed the 2020 Census to attend one of these events. The upcoming dates are:

  • Sept. 17, 4 – 6 p.m., North Forsyth High School (Enter off Shattalon Drive).

  • Sept. 19, 10 a.m. – Noon, Enterprise Center, 1922 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

If you would like to support the LEAD cares initiative purchase a snack from our Amazon wish list.

First Day of LEAD!

Our team has been working diligently all summer to get ready for this year’s programming. The first day of LEAD was September 12th and we are so excited to be back. We have several new and returning girls this year and our staff is looking forward to connecting with all of them on our mission to achieve Mind, Body, and Spirit wellness through self awareness, leadership, and community building.

Thank You, Triad Women's March

We want to give a special thank you to everyone who organized and participated in the Triad Women’s March. The Triad Women’s march was a coalition of local organizations united in concern for women’s equality, advancement, and safety. The Triad Women’s March was “determined to disperse remaining funds to organizations making a difference in our community for women and girls, especially those led by women of color.” We are grateful for their support for our girls and what they are doing for women in our community.

#YouAreOurVillage

When it comes to our girls and this program, we have always said, “it takes a village.” We want to recognize all those who make up our village and who play vital roles in our LEAD community. I encourage you to think about where your place is in LEAD. Are you a donor? If not, support a girl and help us make LEAD free this year for every girl! Are you a volunteer? If not, volunteer your time and talents with LEAD. Lets brainstorm ways your company can get involved! Contact our Executive Director, Joy, for more information. Everybody’s role may look different, and whether or not you fit one of the aforementioned titles, there is a place for you with LEAD.

YOU are our village, and each and every one of you help make what we do possible.

Join the Village
The world we live in has become an increasingly virtual one, but today, in the wake of COVID 19, online is our new norm. As LEAD has transitioned from in person to virtual, social media will be a very important platform for communication regarding LEAD updates as well as information about what the girls are doing. We would really appreciate if you could follow us on social media as well as share our posts. Also, you don’t want to miss out on various opportunities such as giveaways!

Change a girl. Change a community.

Change the world.

Learning Everyday Accomplishing Dreams (LEAD) Girls is dedicated to providing the tools and resources that low-income/at-risk preteen girls must have to become productive citizens and active leaders in their communities.
