tonight's pick-me-ups

Things we're doing to unwind and get cozy before bed tonight:

🧹 Mastering the mess. Looking for inspiration to tidy up? Step inside the messy homes of celebrities and others to get some tips on Netflix's new Getting Organized With The Home Edit.

🏕️ Camping in style. All you need is your SUV and this handy kit to transform your wheels into a full out camping experience. An easy way to explore the great outdoors and get in that last road trip of the summer.

💒 RSVPing to all the Zoom weddings. For that friend who postponed her wedding,
here's how to transform any space into a dream venue from the backyard to the living room couch.

🍫 Entering chocolate heaven. Reward yourself for another week well done
with a chocolate semifreddo. This dessert is silky like pudding and refreshing like ice cream — aka the *perfect* combination. #noms

Reads when you're up late anyway. Here are tonight's round-up for every occasion:

For when we turn to the stars and the cards ~ During times of uncertainty, more and more have found astrology and tarot cards helpful for answers and hope: "During this collective period of unrest, it’s perhaps unsurprising that tarot is thriving. 'When so much of our daily lives has changed or been taken away from us, we’ve had no choice but to confront what’s left behind — ourselves,' [Giselle La Pompe-Moore, energy healer and founder of Project Ajna] notes. 'It’s been an interesting moment to do some inner work and examine areas of our lives that we’re finding difficult to maneuver.' With sessions traditionally taking place face to face, recent events have created a surge in demand for online readings, primarily utilizing Zoom, WhatsApp or FaceTime. Data from consumer behavior platform Spate reveals that US searches for ‘tarot cards’ and ‘how to read tarot cards’ are up 31.9 per cent and 78.4 per cent respectively from 2019. 'It makes sense that in uncertain times, we turn to spirituality for some form of guidance.'"

SELF  For when we have big plans on our couch this weekend. Again. ~ How you feel about that may depend on whether you're an extrovert or an introvert as each type has been handling the pandemic differently: "Working at home full-time for him and so many other introverts isn’t the nirvana they expected. For starters, the constant Zoom happy hours and extra conference calls are utterly exhausting. The pressure those under your roof or in your social circle put on you can be taxing, too. Still, many introverts continue to revel in the quietness and relative serenity of lockdown, said Laurie Helgoe, a psychologist and author of Introvert Power: Why Your Inner Life Is Your Hidden Strength. 'For me, just as my extroverted family and friends were getting restless under lockdown, I was hitting my sweet spot,' she said. 'I could work remotely and engage from the quiet of my home ― our kids are grown. I could dig more deeply into projects and open up new worlds of insight and knowledge. I could pause to let ideas sink in.'"

FYI  For when you're thinking about booking that holiday flight ~ Vacations were canceled for Summer 2020, but the current low fare flights are tempting. While it's much preferred to stay grounded, here's what to know about traveling safely this season: "Right now, traveling is a risky move ― no matter where you go. And there’s a possibility we could experience a second wave of infections later this year. But ultimately, the decision to book travel is yours to make ... 'At the end of the day, you have to make the decision based on your comfort level,' [Mollie Krengel, founder of Wild Bum, an online marketplace of curated travel guides] said. For air travel, she recommended choosing an airline that is doing a great job of cleaning and keeping the middle seats open. 'Most accommodations are also taking extra precautions, but it can’t hurt to do your due diligence,' she said. And always double-check the current cancellation policies and fees before you book. In fact, 'get them in writing.'"

SLEEP  For when even Sleeping Beauty wouldn't get through a nap in these times ~ Struggling with getting good sleep seems to be plaguing us all still. When staying home messes up the sleep schedule, here's how to get it back on track: "If you’re looking to totally reset your current sleep habits — something I’m seriously considering — [consider] returning to the habits our ancestors: 'Since the beginning of time, man has rested in the dark and worked in the sunlight, and even with the invention of electricity almost 250 years ago, it is still natural for humans to do the same. Thus, if your schedule allows, it is most natural to go to bed eight hours before the rise of the sun.' Of course, a major shift like this won’t happen, ahem, overnight — [Bill Fish, a certified sleep science coach and the managing editor of SleepFoundation.org] reiterates that it’s important to take your time when adjusting your schedule, to prevent a yo-yo effect that could leave you frustrated and burnt out when you’re trying to be your most rested. 'When changing your sleep schedule, it will take some time, so we recommend gradually changing your schedule by no more than 15 minutes per day to allow your mind and body to adjust.'"
