Autumn 2020 Newsletter

With the new academic year underway we have been excited by the number of schools that have already booked workshops with us. As well as our annual competitions, Gloucestershire K'Nex and Worcestershire Primary STEM Challenge, we also provide a variety of STEM workshops including computer programming and robotics. To keep pupils and staff safe we have updated our workshop risk assessment to include Covid-19 protocols. Please contact us if you would like to view it.
 

Worcestershire Primary STEM Challenge 2020-21

We are now taking bookings for this year's challenge.  Using their creativity and imagination, pupils will design and make a product that solves a real life challenge faced within Worcestershire. All participating schools will receive £150 subsidy towards their first workshop.  If your school hasn't already registered and you are keen to inspire your pupils with a new and exciting challenge then please contact admin@stemworks.co.uk for more information and to receive a registration form.
 

Gloucestershire K'Nex Challenge 2020-2021

It is extremely encouraging to see lots of our schools have already booked their place on the Gloucester K'Nex Challenge 2020/21. Despite the challenges faced last year we are are looking into alternative solutions to ensure we are able to select a winning school for 2020-21.

Renishaw are continuing to sponsor the challenge and provide a subsidy to each school. If you have not already received registration details for the challenge, please email admin@stemworks.co.uk.

QinetiQ Robotics Challenge

QineitQ are passionate about inspiring the next generation of STEM individuals and are proud to be sponsoring this competition again. In this exciting and engaging school challenge, students will be introduced to the fascinating world of robotics. They will be given the opportunity to construct their own robot and taught the necessary programming skills. Pupils will compete in a series of increasingly difficult challenges testing their teamwork, communication skills and resilience. 

STEMworks will be visiting schools during the Autumn and Spring terms to deliver full day workshops. To take part in this challenge please contact admin@stemworks.co.uk for a registration form.

Making Toothpaste with CREST Awards

Over the past few months STEMworks have been busy creating a set of videos to support teachers, parents and students with their CREST Award projects. Take a look at the Super Star Making Toothpaste Activity Video and accompanying Organiser's Card.

To celebrate International Day of the Girl on October 11th, Renishaw’s Education Outreach Team will be putting together a ‘Do it at Home’ activity pack for any budding young engineers. If you are interested in receiving a copy of the pack, please contact education@renishaw.com.

'This is Engineering' Day 

'This is Engineering' Day will be returning for its second year on 4th November 2020. It will take place during Tomorrow's Engineers Week and will take on the theme of 'Be the difference'. The campaign will showcase all of the ways in which engineering can shape the world that we live in. More information will be available soon.
