It's time to enjoy life

2020 is not the year to deprive oneself in an effort to be above it all. "Basic" things are only named that because basically everyone loves them. Listen to the Top 20, post everything on your socials, get that tattoo, and absolutely drink expensive coffees. If anyone hassles you, channel your inner Kim K: "Can I live?!"

Forward this to someone who cringes at a Kardashian reference.

Girls’ Night Out should actually be out

Downtown Greensboro, Inc’s Chow Downtown event is happening right now, and if you’ve been waiting for an excuse to get out, this is it. Many of your favorite downtown restaurants and bars have specials worth putting on pants. Grab your besties or your very best one, and drink a toast to discounts and someone else doing the dishes.

Get carded in the fun way

While you're downtown anyway, flash your ID for a little extra fun. No, we're not hitting on you, although you do look way too young for that mojito, you hottie. We're talking about your #DGSO Passport. Get the app, log where you travel across DGSO, be entered to win prizes. The fun ends on September 30.

We laugh at every bus. Every one.

SCAT, the Specialized Community Area Transportation, needs a new name that doesn't sound like something Bear Grylls found on a backpacking trail. Do you have a recommendation that embodies Greensboro Transit Authority's service to the city? They want to know. Sarcastic replies can be sent to us so we don't flood their inbox.

The perks of this virtual thing

Did you miss your chance to watch NC Folk Fest 2020 live? We've heard of people who walk away from their computers but we're pretty sure they're a myth. If you were torn away (or actually work or something), no worries. You can relive the excitement of the live performances whenever you want.

Which one is our groove thang again?

Saturday, Sept. 19: Greensboro Downtown Parks’ National Dance Day is about to spin into town, but the celebration has already begun. Artists from all dance backgrounds have learned the choreography for the digital flash mob, local troupes have recorded performances for the virtual celebration, and more information keeps coming. Strap on your dancing shoes and grab a partner who can keep up with your moves. It’s GSO’s time to shine.

If your toes don't twinkle

Take 'em to school. Dance Project has a lineup of virtual dance classes for all ages and abilities. From hip hop to ballet, they'll teach you to twirl to whichever soundtrack rules your life. Do not ask us about Cardi B. We cannot handle it.

Finally, some courses we can pass

Tuesday, Sept 22, 3-6pm: If there's one thing we've learned in quarantine, it's the value of a well-cooked meal, and no one's getting that out of the O.Hey team. We'll fake it since we can't make it: Cast-Iron Suppers is hosting a Farm Supper To-Go where you can preorder your chef-made meal, then just pick it up and get it home in time to pretend you've been cooking all day. Order by noon Friday!

It’s our time to smize

Friday, Sept 25, 7pm: If your favorite season is Awards, then you won’t want to miss this fashionable event. Restoration Runway is back, and unlike those work “happy hours”, this is a virtual event you’ll actually want to attend. Soak up new fall fashion from local retailers, toast the models with drinks and appetizers from the 1618 On Location Watch Party Kits, and dress up for the Joy Squad digital photo booth! Show ‘em how to vogue. Get your tickets by noon Wednesday!

And then we want cheese

Saturday, Sept 19, 10-11am: Were you baaaad this summer? Are your stretch pants hiding the results of months of day-drinking and closed gyms? Get down to LoFi Park for Goat Yoga with Unite Us Yoga. These kids don't judge. They also finish off with tastings from Fainting Goat Distillery so you can balance all your chakras.

Reluctant friends can meet you at the bar.

If you're not paying your own student loans

Tuesday, Sept 22: If Disney movies gave you unrealistic goals about saving damsels in distress, well, maybe just lend a helping hand to some Belles. These girls don't need knights in shining armor, but they will take donations of gold and silver. Bennett College's Day of Giving is coming up, and if you think educating women of color is an important part of the GSO economy (spoiler: obvs), then make a donation. You could be sponsoring the next Dr. Mae Jemison.

Birthday cake or fire hazard?

With 105 candles, it could go either way. Greensboro resident Mary Hall celebrated her 105th birthday over the weekend and if that's not some wholesome news, we just can't recognize it anymore. Mary credits an apple a day for her ability to still dance along to her gospel music. Gonna have to find out what kind of apples she's been eating...

Maybe it'll help us stop whining about waking up at 8? Probably not. But we'll see you next week.
