PA election drama continues! Republicans are trying to change election laws by filing suits in state and federal courts. HB2626 was passed by the PA House and does NOT improve the voting process. Key provisions include:
Mail in ballot drop boxes will be vastly limited in Philadelphia, excluding
opportunities to voters.
The Board of Elections, which was to mail ballots in mid-September, will not be required to mail them until October 6.
Applications for mail-in ballots must be received no later than 5 PM on October 19.
Pre-canvas inspection and opening of ballots will only commence the Saturday before the election.
This bill is not yet on the docket of the PA Senate. If passed, it will create a potentially unfeasible timeline for an already overwhelmed US Postal Service.
SEPTEMBER 22 IS NATIONAL VOTER REGISTRATION DAY.
Although October 19 is the PA voter registration deadline for the general election, do not wait until then. REGISTER HEREand make sure all of your family members, friends and neighbors are also registered.
STAY SAFE. STAY HOME. VOTE BY MAIL.
APPLY FOR YOUR MAIL IN BALLOT NOW!!!The Postal Service advises voters to mail ballots no later than 7 days before the election, so when you receive your ballot, send it back as quickly as possible to make sure your vote is counted.
WE NEED POLL WORKERS!
Safely managing polls in Philadelphia alone will require 8,500 workers. If you are at a low risk for getting seriously ill or infecting others who are vulnerable, sign up for the September 24 Poll Worker Information Sessionwith the League of Women Voters and PA Power the Polls.
