We're Getting Personal!

Art Share creates space for artists in Los Angeles - from a platform to opportunities to a community. With support from you, we provide a foundation for emerging artists to navigate the many facets of their live/work lives.

One of our favorite spaces - is giving artists a place to LIVE!

With a waitlist of over 1,200 artists, we are constantly in awe of the artists living here. It's a matter of timing, perseverance, and qualifying for affordable housing through the City's tedious process. With only 30 live/work lofts, we understand how precious each tenant is at Art Share.

Rents here are affordable so that artists can focus on building their business and developing their practice.

We believe by fostering the next crop of cultural movers and shakers, we play a small role in contributing to the vibrancy and diversity of Los Angeles’s arts and culture. Tenants are not just paying for a bed and a roof, but a community to collaborate and benefit from one another.

We would like to introduce you to a few of our artists:

MJ Brown // Rachel Kucken // Kenneth Capers

Hello Rachael Kucken!

Meet Rachael Kucken! A self-taught surrealist oil painter who loves painting on glass and mirrors. Rachael found Art Share through applying for a show in our free open-call submission process for a spot in our Perimeter Gallery. We fell in love with her work and couldn't wait to feature her. It was after this show she began volunteering at Art Share as a receptionist/assistant and expressed interest in being an Art Share resident. The rest is history.

Rachael's work embodies entities that interact softly in a space-borne entirely for them. She assembles visual representations of her past to express the limitless feeling of being alive. In turn, she invites the viewers of her work to take the time to reflect on how the pieces of their own experiences can be put together to explain themselves.

“I am always taken by how fulfilling it is to be able to express myself through my work. The reflection of the world around us makes the viewer feel closer to the piece.”

Oh, snap, its KENNETH CAPERS!
MEET KENNETH CAPERS
Meet Kenneth Capers! Kenneth has lived at Art Share for 5 years and we've enjoyed every minute of it. Formerly unhoused, he is now a PEN America Emerging Voice Fellow, poet, and novelist!  He gave up all the complacency and comfort of his old life to move to LA and master the craft of fictional storytelling in pursuit of an artistically satisfying lifestyle.

Kenneth preaches sacrifice, clarity, and consistency in order to keep your creative focus strong. This impressive man is now a full-time writer and educator, balancing the creative and instructional. He freelances as a content strategist and editor as well as produces a series of quarterly literary events, calling himself the definition of woke!

During Quarantine
Art Share Tenants are Isolating Together
With quarantine redefining everyone's summer and the loss of so many jobs, Art Share tenants found themselves isolating together and so creation began.

Opening the alley to tenants allowed them to BBQ, dine, and perform together. The Arts District came alive again and was reminiscent of the late 1990's when only artists lived here and no tourists flocked here.

In late June and amidst racial reckoning and social awakening, tenants hosted an open mic as a way to heal and share. Non-maskers are current tenants//Guests were required to wear masks.
