EdEquity Corner

Next Meeting is Wednesday, October 14, 2020 7-8pm.

We had a wonderful second meeting of EdEquity Corner last month with neighbors thoughtfully participating in conversations about the challenges we are all facing during these trying times. Our next meeting is next Wednesday, October 14, and we'd love to see as many of you as possible. Drop in, meet your neighbors, and gain some much needed perspective, hope, and practical solutions as we consider the needs of ALL of our kids.

We'll be discussing racial disparities in the return to in-person learning, how this phenomenon will impact educational equity, and anything else on your mind.

This is a free virtual event. Register today! http://tinyurl.com/edequitysept2020

Five Ways to be Antiracist

Don't miss PHNEE member Erin Pier's recent article about educational equity. This month she shares ideas and resources for ways to be an anti-racist that emerged from an organic discussion among community members after the last EdEquity Corner. The article suggests antiracist actions to take at the neighborhood level in Park Hill as well as ways to use your voice and your vote against systemic racism.

Five Minutes with PHNEE

Have you had a chance to check out Five Minutes with PHNEE this month? Head over to the PHNEE Facebook page to watch Park Hill neighbors Jamian Jacobs and Jessica Bowen discuss their decision to send their kids back to the classroom for learning or stay remote. Hear about the issues impacting their choices and some thoughts about why there might be diverging trends for various members of our community. If you know someone in Park Hill who you think should talk with Five Minutes with PHNEE, let us know!

As we are reckoning with our country’s long history and current struggle with racism, I wanted to share a couple of resources that may be worth exploring for educators, paraprofessionals, specialists, school administration, school boards / board of directors, PTA/parents and teachers in training:

Facing Racism- Powerful, compassionate, meaningful and relevant anti-racism training (Certificate for 14 hrs of Professional Development / CEU Credits Available).  Next remote learning cohort begins January 9th.  Limited spaces (current cohort is on a waitlist).
