Dear Sisters,
Welcome to a new year in Bible Study! I hope you were able to join us last week for our introduction to one another and to The Gospel of Mark. If not, below you will find a link to a recording from last week’s study.
I wonder what practices you are engaging to gather our discovery of Jesus ~ what Mark is teaching us about His character and His practice. I am not at all artistic. In fact, my brother only plays Pictionary

with me to mock my utter lack of drawing skills. But as a discipline to help me see Jesus, I have started this poster, adding new information about Jesus each week. (However, I’m not sure it will be even remotely recognizable as a person by the time I’m finished!
We loved having sisters from across the country (and other countries) join us. You’re more than welcome to forward the registration information to a sister, a cousin, a friend ~ anyone who you think would enjoy our “flavor” of Bible Study!

Homework Assignment (ongoing through WBS): Draw the theme of the Gospel of Mark. Take this image CLICK HERE, use word art, paint, sketch, whatever medium you are inspired to use, and caption how Jesus is portrayed throughout the Gospel of Mark.

- John considered him to be worthy and set apart, he has power, baptism with the Holy Spirit
- God has called him Son, Beloved, and Well Pleased, Angels come to him

Last week I shared a liturgy for someone having a medical procedure in support of a few of our sisters undergoing medical tests and surgeries. The Gospel of Mark is known in some circles as “The Gospel of the Messianic Secret.” In part it gained that moniker because the Disciples never seem to figure out what Jesus is doing or who He really is, even though, to the reader, it seems to be plain. But is it?
Our approach to Mark will be this: imagine an outline of Jesus ~ just a pen and ink sketch that barely gives distinction to Him as distinct from any other man. Now, imagine, over the course of our 27-week study, filling in the sketch with color and texture, detail and distinction. I hope we can approach this familiar story as if we have never heard it before, with the intention of gathering details about WHO Jesus is and who He is calling us to be.
I hope we will be surprised and challenged by what Jesus says and we will need to process and discuss what we are seeing and hearing with what we thought we knew about Jesus, and how that works itself out in our hearts and minds.
