Thank you to everybody who donated to last year’s CTE campaign!

Great news: The pavers are ready to be installed!
Unfortunately the engraving on the pavers was delayed due to the current COVID situation but the vendor has now begun scheduling the installation that should begin at the end of September.  Thank you to everyone for their patience.

PUPS

Former GSG Leadership Program

Weekly PUPS Inquiry Questions:

Each week we frame our daily PUPS plans around IB concepts, themes and values to help focus our community building activities.  We encourage families to continue the conversation at home as we develop our new PUPS program.

Week 2:
  • What characteristics do you think are important?   What characteristics do you use to  identify a hero?
  • How do you communicate your perspective and explain how you make decisions?  After reflecting on others ideas and gaining new or different information is it okay to change your mind?
  • Do diverse groups or non-diverse groups have more success?  How does culture influence the way we connect to the world around us?
  • How do rules or expectations create structures in class and society?  What role do games play in development of individuals and cultures?
  • How do having a set of NORMS make the classroom more fair?  How will your NORMS shape the development of your classroom?

 PUPS

 Former GSG Leadership Program

Purpose.Unity.Principles.Service

As many of you are aware of, this summer we went through a reevaluation of the GSG program at Lanier.  We are very proud to introduce the new and improve student led “homeroom” program - PUPS.  We want to make all members of our community aware of the program vision, mission and values and encourage to discuss what this means with your child(ren).

VISION

Making a big place feel small and every voice feel big.

MISSION

PUPS is a student-centered, intimate community dedicated to meeting the social and emotional needs of students while simultaneously giving them voice to power and preparation to be global citizens

Through intentional, year-long leadership training, PUPS Leaders will establish each community as a safe space centered on the IB Learner Profile.

Through a gradual release approach, students will engage in relevant discourse exercising critical thinking, problem solving, empathy, adaptability, and growth mindset with the goal of being advocates of change both within and outside of the LMS community.

 VALUES

Community: Establishing a partnership among teachers, leaders and students to cultivate a culture of respect, empathy, and belonging

Social and Emotional Needs: discovering self-identity and managing emotions to build the realization, perspective and skills to know that everyone has value

Voice to Power: creating space for students to develop the confidence and efficacy to affect change in the real world through democratic action

Global Citizens: empowering our community to invoke positive change around the world by modeling the IB Learner Profile

Each week we are guided by inquiry questions that we hope will not only provoke conversations in the PUPS classes, but also at the dinner table.

Week 1 Inquiry Questions:

What is the PUPS vision?  How do we communicate vision? Do you feel supported at Lanier? Do you feel safe asking for help? How can we use technology to connect with and learn more about our peers?

Who are your PUPS classmates/community?

TECHNOLOGY

Students need the right tools to be successful in this time of distance learning.  With that in mind we are working to make sure every student has adequate technology equipment.  We had a successful technology distribution.  However I know that many of you might still be in need of technology.
Your student needs a Chromebook if:
  • He or she doesn’t have access to a computer.
  • Is trying to do his or her work on a phone or tablet.
  • Is sharing equipment with others so they can’t log into the classes as required.
Your student needs a Hot Spot if:

There is not access to reliable internet.

Please send me an email if you need a Chromebook or a Hot Spot.  If there is enough need we will have another pick up, or I will make arrangements with you individually.
