DRM Showcase Held Successfully During Virtual IBC
For more than ten years a lot of the DRM key members, supporters and digital radio enthusiasts were ready to make their trip to Amsterdam for the IBC convention. In 2020, however, the continued health crisis has forced all industry players to adjust their plans and come up with other ways to creatively bring their peers together. The solution for the DRM Consortium was, like for many others, to organize a virtual showcase. The Digital Radio Mondiale event “DRM - Advanced Radio for All,” took place Sept. 9th, during the “IBC Showcase.” The two-hour online presentation provided an insight into recent DRM developments taking place around the world, as well as a peek at new dedicated products.

DRM Adopted by Pakistan
Among the highlights of the DRM Showcase was also the presentation from the public Pakistani broadcaster, PBC, which confirmed that the country has adopted DRM for all the bands (both AM and FM).
At the beginning of the month the Chairman of the Pakistani Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting, Senator Faisal Javed Khan, highly appreciated Radio Pakistan’s activity, considering it a real national asset. During the meeting of the committee held at the PBC headquarters, Secretary of Information, Akbar Hussain Durrani, informed the Committee that a comprehensive three-phase plan costing over ten billion rupees is at the final stages of consideration as its aim is to introduce Digital Radio Migration (DRM) Policy, thus expanding Radio Pakistan’s coverage to strategic destinations with quality broadcast.
In this context here is the PBC presentation made during the DRM Showcase given by PBC.

DRM System Specification Updates Completed
The DRM Technical Committee has completed its work on reviewing and updating the DRM system specification, ETSI ES 201 980. The changes, which are backwards compatible, will make DRM's implementation in chipsets and receivers more reliable, and add additional support for receiver text displays to be able to support different scripts from around the world.
For members of the DRM Consortium, a special version of the document is available that highlights all the changes compared to the published standard. This Consortium-internal document can be requested from the DRM Project Office. The ETSI approval process will begin shortly and publication of the new version is expected early in 2021.
