Introducing Sachen Foundation’s 2020 Grant Recipients

Sachen Foundation is proud to announce its eight award recipients for the 2020/21 grant cycle: (1) Sakya Centre, (2) Sakya Nunnery, (3) Sakya College, (4) Kalimpong Sakya Monastery, (5) Tsechen Kunchab Ling, (6) Vajrayogini Meditation Centre, (7) Melody of Dharma, and (8) The Sakya Tradition.

Donations like yours go towards supporting the education of monks and nuns; Buddhist curriculum and education of children and lay practitioners; and the preservation of the Buddha’s teachings. We hope you take the opportunity to explore and learn more about the noble activities of this year’s recipients.

Over the course of July 2020 to February 2021, we’ll introduce you one grant recipient each month and what the individual grant will be supporting. This month, we are introducing the Vajrayogini Meditation Centre. Click here to read the past newsletters.

Vajrayogini Meditation Centre

The Vajrayogini Meditation Centre is part of the Sakya Nuns’ community dedicating their lives to the study, contemplation, and practice of the Dharma. Located near Boudhanath Stupa, the centre was offered to His Holiness the Sakya Gongma Trichen Rinpoche in 2011 by His Eminence Tashi Chophel Rinpoche after he went into long-term retreat in Tibet.

Donations like yours help empower the next generation of nuns within the Sakya tradition. The 2020/21 grant will accommodate the center in the purchase of books, educational supplies, and the sponsorship of teacher salaries.

The Sakya tradition has a rich and inspiring history of great Sakya Jetsunmas, nuns, and female practitioners. The nearly 90 young and senior nuns residing at the Vajrayogini Meditation Centre continue the legacy of Buddhist scholarship and practice and will continue to do so for generations to come.
