Streatham Hill Theatre and Telford Park Tennis Club
PRESENTATION:
The Telford Park Story

A Short Introduction by Chris Sluman

The Telford Park Estate is the common name for a collection of houses designed as a “modern” estate by renowned architect E. J. Tarver, in 1877. It was built around a Tennis Club – now the second oldest in the UK. Much of the design and build was somewhat revolutionary for the time.

This short introduction delves a little into the original ownership of the land; the building of the estate; its early residents and the tennis club – up to some fairly major social issues which culminated in the formation of the Telford Park Association, along with its many good works.

It is particularly relevant to FoSHT as many of the thespians and others who were key to the success of the theatre lived on the estate.

CALLING COMMUNITY GROUPS
We continue to build up our list of community organisations in Streatham and South London, and want to ensure we reach out to all community groups big or small. If you know of a group, or are a member of one, please email whatever details you have to: community@streathamhilltheatre.org for us to follow up.

Thank you!
