COVID-19 and its Impact on Giving in 2020

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused major changes to giving. What adjustments in strategy and appeal messages are necessary for 2020? What results can be expected? How will the Covid-19 crisis impact fundraising in 2021?
AFP has extensive giving data from its 14-year Fundraising Effectiveness Project to help recognize what happened in the first half of 2020 and offer analysis of Covid-19 related fundraising strategies for the rest of 2020. Jim Greenfield is a member of AFP’s Fundraising Effectiveness Project and will provide the latest analysis of 2020 results that focus on both donor participation and their gift support.
About the Speaker: Jim Greenfield served as a fundraising executive for 40 years at three universities and five hospitals on the East and West Coasts and in between. He retired from Hoag Memorial Presbyterian Hospital in Newport Beach, CA after 14 years as Senior Vice President, Resource Development and Executive Director, Hoag Hospital Foundation. Jim remains active with the AFP South Sound Chapter along with some consulting, teaching, volunteering and writing including being a member of AFP’s Fundraising Effectiveness Project for several years.

Opportunity for a current AFP South Sound Member to receive a scholarship to ICON 2021, covering conference registration (roughly $800 value) and up to $500 in travel expenses. Application deadline: October 9, 2020.

Ethical Fundraising in Challenging Times

Many nonprofit organizations are reeling from economic and social upheaval related to the Covid-19 pandemic along with racial injustice, widespread unemployment, divisive politics, and more.
These are current issues that can test even the most revered professional practices, including AFP’s Code of Ethical Standards and Donor Bill of Rights. This interactive session will address these issues and other ethical dilemmas submitted by Chapter members based on their personal experiences or from situations they have heard described by others in the field.

AFPSS seeks a part-time Chapter Admin
Do you know someone that's interested in supporting fundraising efforts in our region?
The AFPSS Board is looking for a part-time (25 to 30 hours per month) Chapter Administrator. The Chapter Administrator is a person responsible for the successful, consistent and efficient operational functioning of AFPSS and supports the Board of Directors in service to the members.

AFP South Sound members are invited to participate in small group gatherings on a variety of fundraising topics. Each session will feature a seasoned professional who can answer questions and advise on their chosen topic. Limited to just six attendees, this intimate setting creates a forum for getting to know more of your AFPSS peers, have deeper discussions, and gain new leadership skills.
