Registrations Open for the EFRJ Winter Academy 2020

We have opened the registrations for our online Winter Academy (12 November -  7 December 2020), a very special learning opportunity for anyone interested in in restorative justice. The event will include two introductory courses (Introduction to Restorative Justice and Introduction to Restorative Responses to Serious Harm) and three Insight Talks with a linked Q&A ('question and answer') session. The 2020 Winter Academy will be led by EFRJ registered qualified trainers and will be taking place online. There are limited places available in both courses. Early bird registration available until 30 October. Members receive 10% reduction of the prices.

Adult Learning about Restorative Justice
On 6-8/10/2020 the European Platform for Adult Learning (EPALE) is hosting its Online Community Conference and we are pleased that our Italian partners in the Kintsugi Erasmus Plus project have been invited as speakers in the Italian national panel focusing on the restorative justice and especially their experiences gained in the KINTSUGI programme elements. We are glad that as the project is soon coming to its end there are several lessons to draw, and indeed the participants are sharing. We will communicate more about the outcomes project during the Restorative Justice Week.

REstART Festival
Do you already have the dates 1-5 December saved? Next week we will launch the contributors webpages with all the details. Take a look at our website, you will get a first bite of all these beautiful, innovative and brilliant art creations and a deeper introduction on who these artists are and what are going to offer to celebrate the EFRJ 20th anniversary.

Recording of Violence, Hate and Othering Webinar
Last week (23/09/2020) we had a fascinating discussion on responding to hate crime and polarisation, that has been occuring more frequently in the recent months. The meeting included Lucy Jaffe (UK, the Director of Why Me?) and Miriam Attias (Finland, The Roundtable Initiative) and it was moderated by Tehmina Kazi (also from Why Me?). The speakers have  both engaged in restorative-oriented community interventions at the local level, and presented about their work on the webinar. We are pleased to share the recording of our webinar.

Stronger - Next Week
'Stronger', the theatre play based on true events, will take place next week (7/10, at 4:30 GMT) as a free online event of the Dublin Theatre Festival. Geoff Power's drama is telling the story of a teacher raped by her student, who seeks healing through a restorative process. The online reading will be followed by a discussion exploring restorative justice. This will be chaired by Tim Chapman and besides the author by several experts, including Dr Marie Keenan. Registration is still available

French Conference on Environmental Justice
The French Institute of Research on Law and Justice (Mission de recherche Droit et Justice) has published a research report on environmental justice that presents restorative justice as one of the recommendations for a new legislation in France.
Next week (5-9/10) they organise a partially online conference based on this study with the contribution of Professor Ivo Aertsen, the founding member of the EFRJ. The video contributions will be accessible through their website.

Moment of Inspiration

“This witch. This evildoer. This monster.” “She has no respect for the traditions of our constitution, none.” “Absolute disgrace to the Supreme Court.” “She is one of the most vile human beings.” “She is very wicked, yeah.” “She is anti-America.” “She is zombie. That woman is a zombie: Ruth Bader Ginsburg.”- these are the first things we hear about the protagonist of the documentary titled RGB, portraying the recently deceased Supreme Court Judge in the USA who was the first woman to held this office. The movie directed by Julie Cohen and Betsy West in 2018 was nominated for the best documentary Oscar in 2019, and offers a great overview about Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s fight for gender equality and her legacy. As she says in the opening of the film: “I ask no favour for my sex. All I ask from our brethren is that they take off their feet of our necks.”
