Fans of the rock band Queen will instantly recognise this blog title as the title of their 1974 album. Fear not though; what follows is not an attempt to link rock ‘n’ roll with the development of tobacco harm reduction. Instead it is a rather neat (or clumsy, depending on your view) way of exposing yet another increasingly tiresome example of how international scientific and medical organisations put the lives of millions of smokers at risk, by continuing to peddle fabrications about the ‘dangers’ of safer nicotine products. [...]

New Products, Programs in Smoking Cessation Sector Offer Hope, Support to Those Desperate to Quit

Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the world today. Globally, 7 million people die every year from tobacco use, and the number is projected to increase to 8 million if the pattern of smoking doesn't change. These disturbing statistics are being noted by companies with experience and interest in working to make a difference in the world and provide effective ways to support and help smokers quit. One of those companies, Kaival Brands Innovations Group Inc. Tobacco regulatory science researcher earns $1.3 million grant to study role of menthol

In 2009, the Food and Drug Administration banned numerous cigarette flavors, from chocolate to cherry to cinnamon, in an effort to decrease their attractiveness to young people. But it did not ban menthol flavoring. Now, the FDA is considering whether to ban the minty flavor, and a researcher at Stephenson Cancer Center at OU Medicine is conducting a study that will help inform that decision. Tobacco regulatory science researcher Amy Cohn, Ph.D., received a $1.3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health and the FDA Center for Tobacco Products for her study, [...]

Belgium’s vaping law ‘still too vague’, Sciensano warns

The law regulating the use of electronic cigarettes is still too vague, the Sciensano public health institute reports on Thursday. The law “imposes restrictions only on the presence of nicotines in e-liquids. Other substances are not explicitly banned and therefore we still often find them,” Sciensano said. “These are nicotine impurities, volatile organic compounds and diacetyl and acetyl propionyl flavour enhancers. The latter are safe in food but can be harmful when inhaled over long periods of time,” said Sophia Barhdadi, a researcher at Sciensano, based on sample analyses.

No medical check-up or extra premium! Smokers can easily buy health, life insurance

It is a common myth among smokers that the life or a health insurance policy will not be available to them. An even bigger a myth is even if a life or a health insurer issues them a policy, the premium will be quite steep and medical tests will be needed. While it is true to some extent, couple of health insurance companies are lenient when it comes to selling policies to smokers. If you declare that you are a smoker but have no lung disease, you may get a health policy at the same premium as a non-smoker without medical tests. However, most life insurance companies do load extra premium on term insurance products.

Why are Koreans loyal to Korean cigarettes?

Smoking culture in South Korea has seen a great change in the past decades. Smoking indoors and in public areas have been banned, and the number of smokers has been decreasing amid rising health consciousness. New preferences for flavored cigarettes and less smelly products are proving popular, as well as technologies developed to introduce new ways of using the tobacco leaves, by heating and not burning. Still, one thing in Korea remains the same. Korean people are loyal to Korean cigarettes, even after over 30 years have passed since a nationwide ban on imported cigarettes was lifted.
