Leaf Collection begins October 19
The Village’s annual curbside leaf collection program will run from October 19, 2020 until November 30, 2020. Residents may rake their leaves to the parkway just inside the edge of the curb for collection by the Village. Please do not place pumpkins or debris other than leaves for collection, as it will damage the leaf collecting equipment (pumpkin collection will be November 4).

Leaves collected are then hauled to Antioch, IL for composting, which the Village then receives back in early spring for residents to use as compost material. For more information, please contact the Public Works Department at 847-716-3568.

Celebrating Fire Prevention Week: Fire Safety Tips

Though the Village is unable to host our Annual Public Safety Open House due to COVID-19, we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to pass along fire safety tips!  This year’s fire prevention week campaign “Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen,” works to educate everyone about simple and important actions to take to keep safe in the kitchen. Did you know cooking is the #1 cause of home fires and home fire injuries? Visit the Fire Prevention Week website for more information and games and activities for kids to learn essential fire safety habits.
National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day: Saturday, October 24
On Saturday, October 24, the Winnetka Police Department will partner with the US Drug Enforcement Administration to help discard unwanted, unused, and/or expired medications for National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. A disposal box will be in the lobby of the Police Department at 410 Green Bay Road from 10 AM to 2 PM. Members of the public can drop off unwanted prescription drugs in that box with no questions asked. Learn more on the DEA’s website.
A Reminder from the Chief of Police: Please Locpolice patchk Your Car and Remove Valuables
Our area continues to experience a number of auto theft/burglary related crimes. These incidents are preventable, as vehicles are frequently left unlocked with valuables and keys/fobs left inside. Auto theft causes a number of inconveniences, including cancelling credit cards, replacing your driver’s license, notifying your insurance company, and disputing tolls, among other possibilities. If your vehicle is stolen, there is a strong chance it will be damaged if and when it is recovered.

Please remove your valuables and lock your vehicle. Illuminate the outside of your home at night and do not hesitate to call 911 if you see or hear something suspicious. Let us help you protect your property.
