Let me encourage you to dig down and deep into a reservoir of Holy Spirit empowered depth and find energy, optimism, initiative, leadership and positive energy for all in your circle of influence. It is not the time for a passive, consumer mindset! These are the days for the people of God, and especially for leaders, to tap in, rise up, encourage others, and go forward boldly as influencers for the big picture. We are on a mission to worship God, create a community of belonging, and nurture souls. Do not get sidetracked. Rather, re-up for the mission right here and right now.
We serve a risen Lord who is reigning now and we are members of the Body of Christ. You are here for times like these. This is a huge privilege, and in these precarious days, it is also a responsibility not to be taken lightly. Be bold brokers of hope and take your assignment seriously to robustly build one another up in faith, hope, and love.
It is only because I love you so much that I am preaching a series called Vice Grip, and if taken seriously, will keep you from the seven most severe and common tendencies that will wreck your life and damage your soul. Jesus offers a better way forward but it is first important to know what you are resisting. Envy is a life-wrecker and a losing game. It is being chronically and destructively bitter because someone in your circle has it better. Envy will wreck you, your relationships with others, and your relationship with God if it goes unchecked. Envy lives in the arena of unhealthy comparison and competition. Want a better way forward?
