NOW IS THE TIME: OUR FUTURE IS ON THE LINE

The current administration is continuing to hold the 2020 Census date hostage.

Spoken word poet Terisa Siagatonu reminds us that there’s NO TIME to waste.

Poet, educator, and community leader Terisa Siagatonu reminds us just how much we all have on the line in her Census spoken word piece, which you can watch HERE. The 2020 Census continues to be embroiled in political controversy and litigation. The current administration is creating chaos and confusion—in an attempt to skew congressional representation, redistricting, and critical community funding for the next 10 years—to stop people from getting their fair share. They sought to end the count on September 30, a month earlier than planned, but federal courts blocked that move. The Trump administration appealed. Trump’s Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross, is threatening to cut off the U.S. Census counting on Oct. 5, instead of the court-mandated deadline of Oct. 31. This past Thursday night, the CA federal court judge presiding over the case on Census deadlines ordered the government to issue a new text message to all Census Bureau employees notifying them of the Court’s Injunction Order, stating that the Oct. 5 “target date” is not operative, and stating that data collection operations will continue through October 31. Don’t wait. We need everyone to take the Census TODAY and BE COUNTED.

The last day to fill out the 2020 Census may be October 5—or any day between that and October 31.
Hundreds of thousands of households remain uncounted, which means that BILLIONS of dollars will not reach these communities for the next decade. Be counted because undercounted means underfunded and underrepresented. The 2020 Census will improve our lives for the next decade—and longer, since its ripple effects continue through generations.
If that isn’t incentive enough to encourage everyone you know to fill out the Census, Art+Action will mail out free prizes to anyone who sends us proof of Census completion.

Don't miss out, fill it out. Please encourage your communities to fill out the Census TODAY.
