US BISHOPS TELL CATHOLIC VOTERS ABORTION IS "PREEMINENT ISSUE" IN 2020 ELECTION
"Priorities At The Polls", article by Most Reverend Joseph F. Naumann, chair of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) committee on pro-life activities, "As Catholics approach the polls, we are asked to weigh many important issues. The U.S. bishops have reaffirmed that “the threat of abortion remains our preeminent priority because it directly attacks life itself, because it takes place within the sanctuary of the family, and because of the number of lives destroyed.” While they did warn us not to “dismiss or ignore other serious threats to human life and dignity such as racism, the environmental crisis, poverty, and the death penalty,” they did give priority to upholding and defending our brothers’ and sisters’ most basic right—to live."

A rising threat to the lives of unborn babies is the chemical abortion pill. The number of chemical abortions in the US has gone up dramatically, while the overall number of abortions has decreased. COVID-19 is expected to only make the problem worse, with more women (and teen girls) seeking chemical abortions at home—even illegally, by mail and without a doctor’s prescription. This is especially scary because chemical abortion can be more painful, traumatic, and risky for women than surgical abortion. But there is hope: a new bill has been introduced that could help protect mothers and babies from chemical abortion.
The Support and Value Expectant (SAVE) Moms & Babies Act (H.R. 4399 / S. 3072) could help improve regulation of chemical abortion pills. The SAVE Moms & Babies Act would codify current FDA (Food and Drug Administration) safety regulations requiring physicians to dispense the pills, prevent providers from dispensing these drugsremotely, by mail, or via tele-medicine, and prevent the (FDA) from approving new chemical abortion drugs or from making labeling changes to existing abortion drugs.
Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith introduced S. 3072. On September 22, Senator Hyde-Smith went to the Senate floor to ask the Senate to adopt the bill by “unanimous consent”. While this request did not succeed, it did provide an opportunity to talk about the dangers of chemical abortion and to raise awareness about the need for this bill. PleaseTAKE ACTION NOWto urge your Senators and Representative to co-sponsor and work to enact S. 3072 or H.R. 4399 or to thank them if they have already done so.

ST MAX Major & Mini PRAYER DAYS:At4600 Gulf Freeway. 1. MAJOR PRAYER DAYS: 2X PER YEAR: St. Max chooses a day to pray in conjunction with the semi-annual “40 Days for Life” International Campaigns. Pray outside the abortion facility or at home. These campaigns are co-sponsored by our Archdiocese. Different churches, from varied denominations, organize groups to pray on different days during these 40-day campaigns. One held in the spring, and the other in the fall. We usually pray in shifts from 7am–3pm. Visit www.40daysforlife.com. 2. MINI PRAYER DAYS: 4X PER YEAR: (Not a 40-days event.) St. Max parishioners and friends pray every other month from 7am – 1pm, outside Planned Parenthood. Come out for one or more hours on those days, and spread the word to others about this life saving effort.

2. HOLY HOUR – Annual Observance of Legalization of Abortion
In St. Max Adoration Chapel from 7-8 pm in conjunction with the parish weekly Holy Power Hour. Held the Monday nearest Jan. 22nd anniversary of Roe v Wade which legalized abortion in the U.S. Approximately 800,000 children's lives are aborted annually in the U.S.
3. ANNUAL "TEXAS RALLY FOR LIFE" IN AUSTIN: We join Prince of Peace Church on a chartered bus for the annual peaceful march. We go every year, and it is very nice. Depart POP at 7:00 am and attend 10:00 am Mass at a Houston church. Then, 12 – 3 pm is the “March for Life” followed by the “Rally for Life” at the Capital. Cash or check for luxury bus. Bring a sack lunch & enough money for an early dinner at great BBQ place. Arrive back at Prince of Peace about 7pm. Contact Karen at 281-639-1999 to sign up. FEBRUARY 1. MINI PRAYER DAY at PP 7AM -1PM.Come for 1 or 2 hours. 2. HOUSTON COALITION FOR LIFE ANNUAL BANQUET FUNDRAISER– We usually have 2 or 3 tables: K of C usually donates the purchase of one of these tables. We offer free tickets to clergy and K of C members.
