Students learn art in outdoor classroom

Nature is good for the soul, and one Hopkins teacher is proving that nature is good for education, too. This fall, art teacher Courtney Kohlstedt is teaching her students at Alice Smith Elementary in an entirely outdoor classroom.

“The kids have truly experienced joy while stretching out on the grass and being surrounded by trees and the peaceful sounds of nature,” Kohlstedt said. “They can use their art to express themselves and process their feelings in a safe and tranquil outdoor environment.” More

Students play music at Outdoor Orchestra

It’s been six months since the Hopkins High School orchestra has been able to play together in one location. Although students have been able to meet online, the internet lag makes it hard to play instruments together in real time. That’s why orchestra teacher Alison Swiggum’s proposal to offer voluntary outdoor rehearsals has been so popular among her students.

The Outdoor Orchestra program is voluntary, and so far, students have loved the opportunity to see their friends and have some normalcy back in their routine. More

Meet Julius Eromosele, North Junior High Principal

This year, Hopkins is welcoming four new lead principals. In our special Meet Our New Leaders series, we will be introducing you to each of them. Today we are focusing on Julius Eromosele, the new North Junior High School principal. Eromosele is committed to creating an educational experience built for all students regardless of background. Get to know him and his story in this Meet Our New Leaders series.

Want to hear more from Julius? MPR News invited three Minnesota educators to the Angela Davis show last week, including Principal Eromosele. Hopkins Public Schools is hiring! A teacher and student work on a project.

Hopkins Public Schools is hiring for a variety of positions! We need child care workers, paraprofessionals, pre-school teachers and substitute teachers. This is a great time to explore the field of education, even if you have never considered it for yourself before. Substitute teachers must hold a license from the Professional Educators Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB).  If you have a four year degree, you are eligible for a short call substitute license. You can apply for that license here.

Be part of our #HopkinsFam. Be part of an exciting #Vision2031 team. We need you! You can search for available jobs here.
