You Are Invited to the National Day of Storytelling -- a celebration of the work artists and storytellers do.
The National Day of Storytelling is a day of performance, music, dance, poetry, cinema, and collective imagination.
This day honors the 40th birthday of The Alliance for Media Arts + Culture, and the thousands of artists, member organizations, industry partners,
friends, funders, teachers, youth, filmmakers, photographers, journalists, activists and bearers of culture who make up our growing network and beloved community.
One the hour from 10AM PT - 3PM PT on 10/10/2020, we will be screening a Program that includes five sets of stories on video here on our website, and on Facebook. These stories are grouped by theme: Calling in the Spirits, Reclaiming the Past/Owning Our Stories, Women and Girls Rising, Identity and Belonging, and Future Wisdom. Together, they are testimony to the power + solidarity of artists and storytellers in this time of crisis, unrest, transition, growth, uncertainty and fear. They are our gift to you, an opportunity to reflect, be inspired, and connect with your own healing magic.
After each set, some of the artists will gather in our zoom room with facilitator Melinda Weekes Laidlow, to reflect on their own creative journeys and answer questions. You are welcome to join those conversations. The zoom link will be posted after the screenings.
This program will only screen once in this 5-hour curated format on 10/10/2020, but this website will be live for a year and we’ll share links where you can screen the individual pieces where they live around the internet. We are also providing links to connect with the artists and issues you care about – please contribute to their campaigns, tell them you love them, volunteer your time, share their work with your people.
