Issue #1
Autumn Term
NEW FROM WEST SOMERSET RESEARCH SCHOOL
Welcome

Welcome to our first offering of the 2020-21 academic year.  We've deliberately kept things short and sweet this time around, as we know there is a lot to read out there at the moment!  This issue focuses on 'learning behaviours' and what the best evidence suggests will help to improve outcomes for all young people, but especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.  It has been a very different and challenging start to the academic year but we hope that you're able to find time to read what's included below.  As ever, get in touch to find out more or seek further support from your local Research School.

LATEST RESOURCES
Special Educational Needs in Mainstream Schools
The EEF has published a new guidance report designed for mainstream schools, highlighting the importance of prioritising familiar but effective strategies to support pupils with SEN, rather than creating burdensome new programmes.
Remote Professional Development
The EEF's new Remote Professional Development Rapid Assessment is a great resource for school leaders and PD providers in helping to make decisions about PD provision given social distancing requirements caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
EVENTS AND TRAINING
Working with Parents to Support Children's Learning

This online twilight session, provided by West Somerset Research School and North Somerset Teaching Alliance at Backwell School, provides an exploration of the four recommendations made in the EEF’s “Working with Parents” Guidance Report, published in 2018. We'll help you understand and use the recommendations in effective ways, aiming to improve pupil attendance, progress and attainment.  The cost is just £30 and full details are on our website here.
