eNews Update
October 1, 2020
Once again as we begin this fall season we encourage your worship life. We are on the church building property every Sunday for in person worship. We can sing, hear God's word, and see familiar faces as we gather. Please know that you can also live stream every Sunday at 9am!
Our ministries continue for children and youth. Thank you to all who provided backpacks for children in need. We are grateful that each Sunday, as children worship they receive a bag containing a children’s bulletin that applies to that particular Sunday, crayons, and goodies. Youth are continuing to meet at Ramona Oaks Park every Sunday at 5:30pm. They have 15-20 youth every week for games, devotionals, and program.
We are working on Bible Study opportunities to begin mid-October, and Home Groups are just a week away - see the block below for more info!
Our social ministry team is working on an effective “Gods Work, Our Hands”.... to commence mid October through Thanksgiving. We are also invited by Incarnation Lutheran Church to help build a home in Chula Vista for families in Mexico that are in critical need. These homes are half-day builds. Let’s see if we can get at least 6 individuals to represent Spirit of Joy. The build is on October 24th.  The building will be moved when permitted.
We have much happening in these early days of our fall season. Please join us as we lift up our life and ministry to our Lord.

                   Blessings to you all,

                  Pastor Dan
THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD.
I SHALL NOT WANT.
I SHALL FEAR NO EVIL.

Has there ever been a time in our lives as Americans when we more needed to hear and trust God's message contained in the 23rd Psalm?

In the midst of our wretched political and social divisions the 23rd Psalm is a bright and beautiful beacon calling us to understand and receive God's mercy that will carry us through these dark times.

During the week of October 4, our home groups will begin reading and discussing God's promises found in the 23rd Psalm.

Some likely topics:
  • Jesus is Lord. If this statement is false, nothing is important. If this is true, then nothing else is important. What does each choice mean? And how does my choice affect my life?
  • How can I believe that the Lord is My Shepherd, I shall not want?
  • We live in scary, seemingly out-of-control times. How can I possibly fear no evil when I'm surrounded by it?
Please register to join a home group at: http://sojchurch.com/homegroups/
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
~1 John 1:7

A hardworking team of six, Becky & Darren Lynch, Diane & Jerry Cole, Joann & Janet Kling, replaced the sagging & deteriorating orange fencing on the property.  That section of fenced in land is our “perc” area and you never want people or vehicles in that area.
I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.
~1 Corinthians 1:10
And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone.

~1 Thessalonians 1:14
Safety Procedure for Worship
We encourage your arrival between 8-8:45am for set up.  Everyone is encouraged to wear masks on entry and departure on the church property.  Bring your own chairs, pop-ups, umbrellas, and bottled water.  To insure your safety we will have a table with prepackaged communion (1st and 3rd Sunday each month), bulletins (also a digital bulletin is available on your electronic devices), and temperature check.  Please practice social distancing of at least 6ft of separation per family unit.  Trash cans are available to dispose of all trash upon leaving.  If for any reason you are not feeling well, at higher risk, or uncomfortable with attending, we invite you to enjoy the service live-streamed.  If you prefer staying in your car, there will be a designated area for you to do so.
