2020 Alaska INBRE Virtual Retreat

October 3-4, 2020

Special Student Workshops 2:30-4pm both days
The Alaska INBRE Retreat is a two-day celebration of INBRE funded research correlated to a One Health theme. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the retreat will be virtual via Zoom this year with a daily special student-focused session (dates/times listed above).

Funding Period:  April 2021 - July 31, 2021
Alaska INBRE's primary aim is to expand the multi-disciplinary research and teaching network to support biomedical and health research expertise, infrastructure, and translational capacity. Requests must meet one of the goals of Alaska INBRE, which is to increase capacity in Alaska for biomedical and health research, including One Health and basic biomedical research themes. This award is intended to address the needs for special requests as follows:

Equipment and Other Support:  Expenditure deadline July 31, 2021. One-time expenditures like equipment or renovations. Prior to award, requests will be sent to NIH for approval. No carryover is allowed.

The Arctic futures conference will be held Feb 1-4 in Tomso Norway, both virtually and, if possible, in place. The call for abstracts is now open. This is a great platform to present work on health related issues in the Circumpolar north. TRiM FRIDAY JOURNAL CLUB - Fridays @ 12-1PM. The NIH COBRE-funded center for Transformative Research in Metabolism (TRiM) at the University of Alaska is housed within the UAF Institute of Arctic Biology and collaborates with UAA as a partner institution. Join them for Metabolomics Journal Club on Fridays from 12:00-1:00 pm by Zoom (https://alaska.zoom.us/j/899633093) to discuss peer-reviewed literature in metabolomics and hibernation research. ASCEND HUB - BRIDGING THE GAP: Commercialization for Biomedical Researchers. Four October sessions providing researchers with structured opportunities to learn, practice, and apply key skills in the commercialization process including entrepreneurial self-assessment; intellectual property overview; capital-raising skills; collaboration, networking, and marketing best practices; and elevator pitch development. ITHS KL2 MULTIDISCIPLINARY CLINICAL RESEARCH CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS:  
This program provides the time, funding, mentorship, and training necessary to foster the early career development of clinical and translational researchers. The program is funded by the NIH and welcomes scholars from all health professions. KL2 scholars are appointed for up to three years of support. The program encourages all types of clinical research, including patient-oriented research, translational research, small- and large-scale clinical investigation and trials, epidemiologic and natural history studies, health services research, and health behavior research. HRUBY AND TRUMAN FELLOWSHIPS OFFERED BY SANDIA NATIONAL LABORATORIES:  Applications are due Nov. 1, 2020. Candidates must have received a PhD within the past three years or before starting the fellowship; show strong academic achievement, exceptional technical accomplishments and leadership; be seeking their first national lab postdoc appointment and be able to obtain a DOE clearance. URSA AWARD OPPORTUNITIES FOR 2020-2021:  The Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity invites degree undergraduate students taking 6 or more credits to apply for travel and project funding each semester.
