Older People's Day Online Event - Live

Join in and celebrate Older People’s Day online!

Last year’s celebration in Reading’s Broad Street Mall enjoyed a surge in popularity with around 1,200 guests. The event aims to bring older people from all corners of Berkshire together as a community. This year, although under different circumstances, we anticipate that the day will provide many isolated older people with a much-need opportunity to socialise, feel involved and get creative.

Fiona Price, CEO of Age UK Berkshire, said: ‘It’s been a difficult 6 months for everyone in the UK, but older people have been hit particularly hard by the pandemic. We felt it was important to continue to celebrate Older People’s Day and catch up virtually with as many familiar faces as we can’.

To view the main event, please visit

Memory Project

With contributions from Berkshire’s older residents in the form of written and hand-drawn artistic submissions for the Older People’s Day Memory Project, this year’s programme will be packed full of stories recording older people’s thoughts, memories and experiences of coronavirus and lockdown.

You can view a compilation of the Memory Project artwork contributed by local older people at www.readingculturelive.co.uk.

Not on-line?

In the spirit of not leaving anyone out, we are preparing a printed booklet which will include the writing and artwork submitted by the local older people.

A booklet with the content of the video and information about local services will also be published. If you would like a printed copy,
