Update from ETF

Office remains closed

If you've been keeping up to date with ETF's recent activities, then you'll know that the Federation Office has been closed since the end of March and staff have been working from home.  The Albion Trust has been liaising with the Scottish Government regarding the re-opening of non essential offices.  Unfortunately we are unable to give a date of when the Federation Office will re-open.  Watch this space for further details.

Despite this, we are pleased to say that ETF continues to operate during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.  Whilst the office base is closed staff continue to work from home and can still be contacted in the usual ways - email by clicking here or phone 0131 475 2509 and they will do their best to assist you.

On behalf of everyone at ETF, stay safe and take care.

ETF Annual General Meeting

Preparations are well underway

By now all our Ordinary Member Groups, Non-Voting Individual members and those interested in the work of the Federation should have received the invitation to ETF’s Annual General Meeting which this year is being held on Friday 27th November 2020, 7.00pm. With the invitation, for our Ordinary Member Groups and Non-Voting individual members, you will have received an application form to enable you to renew your membership with ETF.  These forms must be returned to the Federation office by Friday 14th November 2020.  This is particularly important for Ordinary Member Groups as this entitles your nominated representative to vote on agenda items at the AGM.  This year the Executive Committee have submitted proposals to amend the constitution to provide the Executive Committee with the opportunity to recruit, to the Board, two people who bring skills and experience that will be of great benefit to your Federation.  These amendments, of course, require the backing of our member groups.

As, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are holding the AGM online using Zoom, the Executive Committee are busy planning how to make this the usual fun and social event our AGM is normally, so watch this space for further information.

To book a place at the AGM please either email by clicking here or phone the Federation Office on 0131 475 2509, preferably by Friday 21st November 2020.  We look forward to receiving membership applications by Friday 14th November 2020 and to seeing you at the meeting.

Please join us and help support YOUR Federation.

Looking to the future

Going online

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, a priority for ETF is digital working, participation and training.  We held our first Federation Meeting online last month and feedback from the event was very positive.  We are looking at holding other ETF events such as High Flats and Repairs Group meetings online as well in the coming months.  If you are are unsure about how to access meetings online, don't worry as ETF will be able to offer you training and support to help you.  If you have a smartphone, tablet or computer and would like to take part or know more, please email by clicking here or phone 0131 475 2509.
In our next edition, you will find out more information about our forthcoming AGM and much more.  Don't forget that Federation Matters, along with other Federation publications, can be downloaded from our website by clicking here.

Shelter Scotland Build Scotland's Future - Build Social Housing
An estimated 70,000 children in Scotland are waiting for social homes, the equivalent of 20 children in every school, according to new analysis from Shelter Scotland.

The analysis which shows that 1 in 14 (50,000) school-age children – and 1 in 13 (70,000) children overall – are currently on social housing waiting lists was published last month to launch the charity’s campaign #BuildScotlandsFuture which is designed to put pressure on all political parties standing at next year’s election to commit to build at least 37,100 new social homes.  At that scale the charity says we will begin to reduce Scotland’s existing and emerging housing need.

Shelter Scotland Director Alison Watson said, “It’s not right that tens of thousands of children don’t have the security of a safe, affordable home.  It’s time to build a better future for these families.  We know that delivering more social homes will support economic growth, create jobs and help Scotland to meet its climate targets.  It will also strengthen our communities – reducing poverty and inequality, improving people’s health and tackling the root cause of homelessness.  That’s why thousands of our campaigners will be calling on candidates in the 2021 election to put social house building at the heart of Scotland’s recovery plan. Let’s build Scotland’s future.”

Shelter Scotland is encouraging people to sign a petition as part of the campaign.  As this story was written the number of people who had signed up in 10 days was over 4,500. Sign here or, if you’re not online, you can sign in any of the charity’s shops.
